Theft at Brandeis?

Some threads at CC recommend that college students should get foot lockers that lock and lock to a bed in order to store laptops, camera and any other valuables.

How much of a problem is theft from rooms at Brandeis? What precautions do you take?

I'm not going to say there is no theft at Brandeis, but I haven't ever heard of any incidents.

I don't have any special lock for my computer, and I don't know anyone that does.

With that said, it might be a good idea to have it for the extra security, if you wish.

If you're living on a ground floor, you may want to do that. Pretty much all of the theft I've heard about occured on a ground floor. However, if you just lock your door when you leave, you should be fine. I don't lock my computer and definitely not my camera...never had a problem, even leaving my computer for a few minutes in the library to go to the bathroom or something. Once I actually left my backpack with my wallet and keys inside in Usdan. I got a call that night from the police station telling me that someone had turned it in.

i wouldn't worry too much, honestly. i did hear once of a laptop theft (yes, the person was on the ground floor)... but i never experienced anything. i frequently left my door unlocked (our door's lock was very finicky, sometimes unlocking it could take five minutes) and NEVER had a problem, ever.
