I received a mailing from BSA today trying to sell me a safe for my dorm room to keep small valuables in. Sure, it’s always better safe than sorry, but is theft really a big problem at Brown? As long as I keep my room locked when I leave, is there really a need for a safe? I already have a laptop lock. Does anyone actually pay the $140 for this service, or is it really not a huge deal? Thanks

I have never even heard of that offer before. I wouldn't worry much about it, just keep your door locked.

Ignore BSA. They try to sell you overpriced things that you don't need.

Get a chain for your laptop -- these do disappear. Other than that, I've never heard of other major problems of theft in dorm rooms. As long as you're smart and keep your door locked, and don't leave a lot of cash lying around, you should be fine.

k thanks, that's what i was hoping to hear, and what I would have thought... a little common sense goes a long way
