Thematic Option students have average SAT I scores above 2150 and an average high school GPA of 4.0. These are NOT minimum standards to apply for the program, though SAT scores and GPA will be considered as applications are reviewed. Students with significantly lower SAT scores or GPA may be asked to submit supplemental materials such as writing samples.

Just wondering, did you guys get confirmation e-mails after you applied? I didn’t get anything besides the next webpage confirming they had received my application after I hit “submit” and it’s making me nervous. >_>

I got a confirmation email, but that might be because I submitted my application about 5 times after it repeatedly said “sorry, this page is unavailable.” :D

@madbean
I saw that on the website as well and thought it pretty contradictory to what they told us at the TO info session at Explore. The only explanation I can think of is what I said earlier - maybe test scores are taken into factor for non-scholarship-recipient applicants only. Or perhaps it’s a mix-and-match process; if an application is on the borderline of acceptance or rejection, they will look at test scores to determine the final decision. This is just guesswork on my part.

^ I didn’t get a confirmation email either.

This is just to confirm that we have indeed received your Thematic Option application. Our apologies for error messages you have received from the glitch in the USC servers.

^ There were no error messages when I was submitting it. Maybe that email is only sent to people who were trying to submit while their servers were down, but did finally get it through? I sure hope so 'cause I’m with Salient on this one xP

Maybe they’re switching to email notifications this year? That’s the only explanation I can think of if we’re really supposed to know by tomorrow. CA students usually get USC mail the next day, but it takes about 3 days for those of us on the East coast … and apparently nobody from CA has gotten anything yet. For everyone to have heard by tomorrow, CA students would’ve had to receive their letters at least two days ago. But hey, I have no objections against an email notification xP

@forgottenmuch Okay that definitely does not seem like a run of the mill confirmation e-mail, thanks for posting that. Makes me feel much better. :p

@blissfulting I really hope they do e-mail notifications and join the 21st century!

I’m betting we will hear by e-mail today. They seemed pretty definitive with the hear by March 31st date (and that seemed the advantage of applying early). Given the letters haven’t been sent out yet, the earliest East Coast people would receive them would be Saturday. Good luck to everyone!

Email notifications will be sent out today to let students know whether or not they have been admitted to the program. This is for students who applied by the March 17th deadline. Thanks for contacting us directly. Sincerely, Jonathan KuhnProgram AdvisorUSC College Honors Programs

@tzhelezn…was this an email you got or are you Jonathan?
Don’t you wonder how many actually applied by this deadline since you had to be an admitted student to apply?
I wonder also if it was the most competitive pool and if you are not Presidential or Trustee then it would have been better to apply later…random thoughts! We will know soon!

For those who applied to TO by the priority deadline, you all have excellent chances of being accepted. I’m not sure if we have ever heard of an invited-to-apply TO candidate being left out.

Hope you all get confirmation of good news soon.

"Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to the Thematic Option Honors Program for Fall Semester 2010. I know that the next few weeks will be very important as you make your final decision about where to go to college and I wish you the best of luck as you make the decision that is right for you.

If you pay your commitment deposit by May 1, 2010, your place in Thematic Option will be reserved.

I was sort of nervous after having to write so many essays in such a short period of time, but I guess they liked them. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!
