so if i’m understanding ur theory correctly, does that mean that all the people whose status changed from prelim review to currently being reviewed are deny+ applicants?

Awh man. DX That would suck if what gbv13 said is true. xD

My son’s best friend was accepted last Monday to the university as an undeclared and he’s waiting for the music school to accept. He has top stats.

well, if this theory is right then i’ll be very very happy lol.
i’ve in in “being reviewed” for about 2 weeks now, so hoping crosses fingers
that I’ll be in the next wave. But then again, I’m not sure if i would be in the admit- group though, since my gpa and sats are not spectacular, but around the average 50%. But I do have great EC’s and essays.

I live in SC by the way, so that means the next wave for us is monday?
and also, if you don’t get anything by say sometime around last week of march, does it mean reject? ><

“if you don’t get anything by say sometime around last week of march, does it mean reject? ><”
not really cause SC doesnt send out reject letters till april so they have until the last day to send out acceptance letters so if they send your acceptance letter on the 31st, you’re still good.

Does anyone know if there was, in fact, a “wave” sent out this Friday? I don’t mean that they all arrived on Fri, just mailed out around then.

Please clarify regarding this theory (I may have missed something). If my D’s been at the “been reviewed/April1” status since 2/7, does that mean she’s probably a deny, since she didn’t get her admit with the first wave? She is definitely not a top-tier candidate stats-wise, but her ecs and especially recs were amazing.

The buzz is that a wave probably did not go out on Friday, since no one in So Cal reported receiving acceptances today.

i would say that if she was there since 2/7 she’s more likely to get in than those of us who got changed to that status yesterday, but i’m really not sure

i think the next wave is gonna be next friday…and then the one after that 2 weeks from then, which would be the last friday in march (the 29th). and then comes the rejects.

well i dont think that it would take a day for letters to get around even if it is nearby. Consider: USC prob has the USPS pick it up from the admission building. if you walk around LA and take a look at the mailboxes, they all say “last pickup at 5pm” (atleast the ones around me does). so USPS picks it up at 5. brings it back to the post office. they gotta sort it and everything so it might take TWO days to get to the adressee i think is the correct word but i’d say it’d take 3 days maybe just to give myself some hope.

I hope all of you get in, including my D. With all of this creative energy and theoretical and mathematical thinking, imagine what you could do at a school like USC! I tip my hat to the Quixotic Rick and his partner for all of the effort they put into this theory, and I have to tell you that if getting into college when I was applying a zillion years ago was this difficult, I think I would have run kicking and screaming in the other direction.

^yes, and because i live in norcal, i can hope for a couple more days…lol

Yup thanks alot QuixotixRick and The Ajay…that probably close to what is really happening imo…and THEAjay…sorry i couldnt reply to your pm…i wanted to write a really long response but had exams goin on so didnt really find time…but i guess its ok now cuz theres this whole thread dedicated to your theory…thanx

What do people think the request for fall grades had to deal with? I wasn’t asked for fall grades, but submitted them anyways sometime in february. i go to a really small competitive private school where are the grades are really only relative to my classmates… would that make a difference in anything?

Very logical explanation, thank you for taking the time to share this with all of us.

I also agree completely – everything makes sense and has held true, especially the part about people with higher stats (and more appealing apps in general) being accepted first (using CC as well as people I know as examples).

What confuses me, however, is how no one got any mail today. Someone earlier suggested that the waves may not come in regular week-long intervals, but rather during periods that are two weeks long. Hopefully that’s the case.

Yeah, perhaps the waves happen every two weeks. The explanation for this could be as follows.

Wave 1: Scholarships: Late January/Early February
Wave 2: Clear Admit people: Letters sent 2-29
Wave 3: Admit-/some mid year grades people: Letter to be sent 3-14
Wave 4: Deny+ who have gotten in/more mid year grades people: To be sent 3-28
Wave 5: Deny/Deny+ rejected/Admit- rejected: To be sent 4-1

There will be more admit- people getting in than deny+ people. I am assuming they want to try to keep the waves equal so its likely that the majority of mid year grades acceptances will be with the deny+ people who have gotten in.

Nevermind, answered my own question.

how many waves have there been?

There has only been one wave so far
