Thats the impression im getting. Every time the subject of whats there to do in Davis is brought up, people say “its a college town, nice and laid back…” as if adjectives were the new verbs. I’m not asking how it feels - i dont care too much about the sentimental aspect. what is there to do??? Restaurants, movie theaters, parks, museums, cafes, malls, stores, clubs, bars, theme parks (yeah i know - no chance), heck even pavement for all davis sounds like to me. I want is so on a saturday night i wanna go out and have some fun i want something fun to do and not the same 2 things. BTW i got accepted into davis and so far it looks like my best choice university academically speaking. And i’ve never been there, but my brother and my dad once drove up there and said from passing it in the freeway it looked like it had very little. And thats what all the talk is about Davis - the stereotype is that theres nothing to do there. I want to be proved wrong. I live in Fresno, and i am indifferent in the view that everyone has that therse nothing to do in here, so anybody familiar with it here maybe fill me in if Davis is any more fun in any way.

Hope this helps.

This is what it looks like driving on the freeway: Farmland, more farmland, more farmland, an exit that says "UC Davis", a water tower, the Mondavi Center, an exit for downtown Davis, more nothing... nothing, farmland... Sac.

You can't see that much from the freeway, and there really isn't all that much anyway. Davis is a college town, nice & laid back :). Downtown is a grid of streets A-H, 1st-5th. There are a bazillion restraunts, a ton of places to get your haircut, a few bars, and two small movie theaters. There are some art galleries too if you're into that. The Grad is a club that's on the north side of campus & if you want to get your groove on that's the best place to go in Davis.

There is no mall - have to woodland for a pathetic mall or sac for a good mall, or vacaville for some outlets. There is a Six-Flags Marine World in Valeijo, and a waterworld on the other side of Sac, those are the closest themeparks. There is Bowling at the MU on campus, and in Vacaville there is iceskating & bowling. Davis is close enough to these other cities that it's not a huge deal to drive there.

You're welcome.

Davis is 20 mins from the next biggest city......that is not bad....I am planning to take my car there.....and another 40 mins to Reno to gamble......Gold Club Centerfolds is nearby in Sacramento

Haha, you live in Fresno and are wondering if there's nothing to do in Davis...

Jackson Rancheria is about an hour away from Davis too. Its 18 and over.

it'll be a lot better...imo than fresno. no offense.

no offense taken - thats what i wanted to hear. but have you been to the better places here like riverpark, cuz only then could you be sure.

I've been to Fresno, AKA "The Sno" haha. I've been to Blackstone, Fashion Fair, no Riverpark though, I heard about it though. In terms of shopping,
Sac/Davis >>> Fresno. But Davis itself, doesn't have a lot of mainstream shopping appeal.

The downtown scene is crackin though. Its more of an urban type of downtown, without the skyscrapers.

yes, trust me i know. my sister lives down there and i stay with her from time to time. you would best know it if you visit as well. just take a tour around davis over break or something?

"There is nothing to do in Davis" ......I have been hearing the same thing about this in other UC schools like San Diego, Davis, Riverside, Merced, Santa Barbara.

it's all about what you make of your college years. If you come in thinking " this sucks, life in davis is boring" you'll probably feel like that the entire time you're there and never truely enjoy it. You gotta be positive.

Not just positive, proactive as well. With 23,000 other students in Davis there will always be something going on. It is up to you to find the activities and group you will enjoy and go have fun. As the commerical says, get out there!

like everyone else had said, it's all about what you make out of college. but i live in davis, so i can tell you that the only things to do around here are seeing movies, going bowling, biking, tree hugging, and dirt worshipping. it's really not that bad. i like this place, even if i wouldn't stay here for college just cuz i'd had to pretend i didin't know my parents or something if i ever ran into them around town. :-P

hey man...stop having a bad attitude and getting bitter at people for not giving you a good explanation of davis. here's some advice....go check it out for yourself. and come on...use common sense. davis is a college town. that means that there should be plenty of fun things to do there. a loooott of people go there...it's a big university. and many pick it over more attractive campuses such as irvine and usc. do you really think kids sit in their dorms on saturday nights because there's nothing to do? ummm i don't think so. if you have the right attitude, you'll find things to do. god people make it seem as though davis is in the middle of a fricken desert. ya the drive to davis is a bore...i had to go there many times to visit my sister. but get onto the actual campus and check out college life. it's a lot different. you have a lot to learn so go do the research and stop complaning. (sry if i sounded mean)

its almost hour and an half to reno....unfortunately

Who needs Reno. You can go to the Indian reservations just outside of Sacramento to gamble.

just someone mentioned Reno before ....so....i just,,,

I loved Davis when I was there in the early 80s when there was MUCH less to do. I got a 2nd hand bike & we were able to bike for miles. There were always lots of movies on & near campus, entertainers came to campus, theater & plays on campus, listened to friends perform choral music (classical), coffee shops, farmer's market, lots of great things to do outdoors (camping, hiking), 2 hour drive to SF, less than an hour to Sacramento (capital of CA), could even catch free library shuttle to UCBerkeley. I LOVED my 3 years in Davis & was never bored, but campus & school & towns are what you make of them.
