These majors: "Communication Design" and "Design Technology" - Please explain.

My daughter is interested in changing her major from photo to one of the two listed above.
As a non-art mom, they look interesting but I am not real sure what they are and what kind of a career you have with the degrees.

Could someone please take the time to explain to me.
I appreciate it!

Communication Design is most likely what most of us think of as Graphic Design. It would be a mix of print and digital design (interactive and web). Design Technology sounds like it is either focused on digital design or a program that is heavily focused on learning the programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, HTML programming, etc.) that most designers use these days. It is hard to say exactly without knowing which school she is in.

Careerwise the options are things like web and interactive designer, graphic designer, art director, branding and advertising, programmer/animator.

Thank you!
She is at Parsons. She loves Parsons.

I don’t know if this is important to you but with either of those two majors there will be many more job opportunities for her than with the photography major. She will gain a wider range of skills and thus be qualified for a wider range of jobs. But she will have to sit at a computer most of her days rather than running around on shoots. A very different lifestyle.

Sounds like either of these two majors could work well with her phototography skills if she wanted.
This is so helpful - thank you so much.
