things not to put on your cornell application

haha any ideas?

well i dont know if it's just me, but i think that applicants, especially to the hotel school, should not utilize the option of applying to two schools in cornell. If an applicant to the hotel school does utilize this option, it shows that he/she is more interested in going to Cornell, than studying the hospitality industry.

....but this is just my opinion

dangit! what if I applied to CALS and A&S with the same major? do you think that's alright?

^ i think thats absolutely fine.
In fact, that is probably why they have the option in the first place :)

Get a letter of recommendation from Tila Tequila, and put in your awards that you were on "A shot At Love With Tila Tequila"

crappy essays - still, it's what most students have.

also, don't apply to 2 schools (except for a few exceptions)

yeah the associate dean of admissions at the hotel school told me that it would be to my disadvantage if i applied to a college in addition to the hotel school

associate dean admissions...how'd u manage that?

dande and I went to the Hotel school summer program, and the associate dean admissions was really friendly and helpful to the HS students. She always offers to help and offers to keep in touch with summer college students if you make an effort.

she does indeed.

What if you want to do biology and you apply to CALS and CAS? Is that fine?

"crappy essays - still, it's what most students have."

Except most applicants think they have "great" essays. Every chances thread posted on here has boasted "great" recs and essays. Apparently, they don't come in any other variety.

lol, norcalguy, most students DO think they have great essays. My experience says otherwise as the overwhelming majority of essays Cornell receives are just crap.

Most students totally miss the point by talking all about the details of their accomplishments or about the duties and responsibilities of being a football captain. New flash: Cornell doesn't care!

i have a friend who works in the hotel school! dande and yousonofatree, do you know nancy snell/weislogel ?

i am going to apply to human ecology as a human devlopment major and CAS as a psychology major - would this be to my disadvantage? i mean, human development and psychology are similar

thank you norcalguy! ive ALWAYS wondered about Great/Awesome/Stellar essays...i mean, only the admissions officers are truly the judge of that.

ive always wanted to read one of these great essays...

afchang- there are tons of books of compiled "successful college essays" at Barnes & Noble or Borders. I went to the bookstore one evening and read through an entire book in one sitting! A lot of them are really interesting and funny.

p.s. 2 more posts til you're no longer a "junior member"! Yay!

OH! its based on the number of posts?! i thought it was based on how long youve been a member.

i actually have a couple of anthologies of successful college essays and theyre really good. i just wonder what CCers define as "great"

Wow, I put about every single thing on this list on my application.

Yeah, and I'll be the first to admit it: I think I sent in the worst essay of all time. I started all of my essays on October 31 at about 11 o'clock. In one of mine, I started talking about a dioramma of Albert Einstein I made in 3rd grade. The admissions people are probably going to think I was drunk when I wrote them. So if anyone thinks their essays are bad, at least I can tell you that yours aren't the worst ones they'll be reading this year.
