i really want to get into cornel. don't really have the grades, or the sat scores. :[ but i really would like to get into the hotel administration school. more than anything! I just found out that cornell as a hotel adminstration summer school. Will it help me get into cornell? I really also want to get into USC for hotel adminstration...will USC not like the fact that I took a hotel school at cornell instead of theirs and not accept me? How much will it help my transcript if i take the cornell summer school? I'm desperate guys, please help.

summer program isn't really going to make or break your application. it doesn't hurt of course, but it's not going to help that much. for the hotel application, you need to impress upon the admissions people as well as your interviewer that you have a passion for the service industry. one of my hotelie friends has always wanted to own a restaurant, so he worked in a restaurant, got some experience, and was able to talk about it in his essays and interview. as for the USC thing, it won't hurt your application to there either.

USC doesnt have hotel administration...do a little more research.

And almost everyone who applies gets into cornell's summer programs (unless your GPA is under 2.5 or something horrific like that).

And your point is what? Cornell summer program is not selective at all. It's the truth. And it doesn't help squat with admissions.

Actually, there is one exception. I went to Cornell's Hotel Summer Program and the admissions dean actually told us that we're already waay ahead of other applicants by attending their program (and doing well). It counts as "experience in the hospitality industry", which is what they look for during the admissions process.

...and what I said before, they take almost everyone. The secret is to actually do well. About one fourth of the students there acted as if it were just another summer camp and ended up getting Cs and Ds, which actually ruin thier chances of getting in.

You need to attend the program.... Make relationships with all of your professors...... score at least an A-.... ask your favorite professor for a letter of rec..... get to know the people in admissions..... have constant e-mail communique after you leave the program informing them of what you are doing...... apply ED..... STAY IN CONTACT... get accepted! This has been brought to you by a person who followed these steps to get into the hotel school. GL
