I've heard from many that being in Ithaca during the summer is a great time due to all the things to explore and see that you wouldn't during the academic year. Sounds exciting, but I've no idea what these things are. I guess what I'm asking is what are the things to see and do in Ithaca during the summer? I visited Cornell Plantations today, was nice :) I'm sure there's a lot of nice outdoor things I'm missing, though.

plantations today would have been great!
the activity on campus will pick up a bit toward the end of the month. it is my hypothesis that this is because the local schools don’t let out for a week or so yet.
here is a nice series of activities that will happen over the summer: [Free summer events / Summer at Cornell / Cornell Summer Session](<a href=“Summer Session - Courses & Programs - Courses for Credit”>Summer Session - Courses & Programs - Courses for Credit) I hope to attend at least a couple of them depending on how my free time shakes out.
the other page on that same site, about “Ithaca and the Finger Lakes” is pretty good. you should check out the farmer’s market at least once. I also like Tompkins County Public library.
Cornell Cinema just started up again, and there will be some movies shown outside, which is a pretty special opportunity. [Summer 2011 at Cornell Cinema
Some people like to go in creeks/gorges where they shouldn’t. There is sanctioned swimming in some of the state parts, if you can get there. Buttermilk Falls is not that far from Wegmans, and I think the most accessible legal swimming for someone living at Cornell without a car. you should check ahead (they have a phone number listed on their website) before you turn up there to swim, since it’s sometimes not open.
the Cornell Outing Club also has some interesting and affordable options, including canoeing on Beebe Lake.
this makes me want to get out more, lol…I haven’t even tried to plan for a farmer’s market trip yet! I have been to the plantations a couple of times, since I love them so much. they’re really a fantastic bonus to have at Cornell, and when I’m there I think about how far I would be willing to travel in order to visit them, and then realize that I’m no more than 10 minutes from home!
