Things to do over the summer...

As my summer begins and I think more and more of my senior year in high school, I begin to wonder just what it is I should do to start getting ready for making my college applications.

I'm applying to several selective liberal arts colleges, one of which I'm applying ED to (Vassar College). I'll be in Tokyo for all of July as part of a study abroad program, but apart from that, I'll be mainly free.

So, what should I be doing over the summer? Should I begin to fill out applications? Work on essays? What are some good things to do over the summer to be productive and prepared for the seemingly stressful senior fall/winter semester?

Trying out some essays is a great way to start. Even if you aren't sure of all of the schools you will be applying to, it is helpful to start experimenting with the "college essay"-type writing.

Also, look back at colleges you have been thinking of, and make certain that they are really great fits, and that you would be very happy at any of them.

I wish I had done that. Everyone told me to, but I was...er...procrastinating all summer. Yes. Very productive, I know.
