Things we should know?

Current students:

What are some things we should know before entering as a freshman?

Any tips or things that you wish you would have known when you started?

Just general things

Buy into the Student Boosters. It’s $25 for the year, and you get all the football tickets sent to you (if you like football, that is). Got to see the FSU-UF game last yr as a freshman, and it was awesome! Lots of friends did not get tickets, as they were not in Boosters, and were not lucky enough to get one.

Some things to know:

 • Shop around for textbooks. Unless you’re absolutely forced to buy your books from the bookstore (and in some cases, you will have to do so- especially lab manuals), they’re cheaper elsewhere about 99% of the time. Also, do not sell your books back (if you sell them back at all) to the bookstore without first looking up what places like Amazon’s textbook trade-in will give for them.
 • College is what you make of it. There’s almost always something going on, so if you aren’t enjoying college you’re doing it wrong. If you aren’t making friends, that’s on you completely.
 • Your professors are there to help you, as are your advisors. However, you still do need to figure out how to do things on your own, because sometimes your advisors won’t have all the answers, but some area on the FSU site will. Also, don’t feel like whatever your advisors suggest for classes is all you can take; they’re just advising you.
 • If you’re paying for something, use it. The Leach Center, the SLC, the campus bus system (if you don’t have a car) are all things (among others) that you pay for, so use them!
 • If you do have a car, be prepared to find a lack of parking. About the only time there’s really a decent amount of parking spots open is the weekend, and even then, those disappear Sunday night.

@torioreo:
Not all of the games. For example, this year with the Oklahoma game, there were no guaranteed tickets. But that is a rare event. It is certainly worth it to get the Seminole Student Boosters membership.

I got a ticket to that game, and so did my other friends that were in it o_O

Edit: Forgot to mention that when you’re in Student Boosters, you also get to go to special events and meet athletes!
