Thinking about moving

I posted in the UNC area. We were toying with the idea of moving to a state with a great public school system. Does anyone know anything about comparing the University of Virginia with UNC in terms of quality of the school and how easy it is to get in for an in-state applicant?

Thanks.

It’s easier to get into UVA as an OOS applicant compared to UNC.

I’m prolly biased but I kinda feel UVA is more happening – it is more diverse, and there is a larger multicultural and international community. Academics are rigourous in both and will vary for different programmes. I think it’s mostly about fit. Though if you’re doing finance or something I think UVA has a bigger name brand in that.

The reason UNC is so difficult to get into OOS is because it’s a state law that something like 82% of the student body has to be from NC so it is easier to get into UNC in-state than UVA in-state (UVA’s in-state percentage is around 60%).

in terms of academics they are about equal. I believe UNC has a very strong communications program but, as WuTang said UVA has a better reputation in terms of business and finance.

Hope this helps!

The state mandate for the ratio is 2/3 : 1/3 for UVa. The student body is usually about 67% Virginian.
