Thinking about my chances of getting into Harvard

Hi everyone, mi name is Angela and im in my last year of high school. Im peruvian, that’s why i’ll finish it on December of the present year. In all pages i have enter, they comment that in order to be accepted by Harvard college you need to be PERFECT and do many extracurricular activities at school, and when i read about people that have an incredible curriculum and are rejected i feel that i have less probabilities. Nowadays, im in my second year as an IB student, and im part of the 10% best students of my year. About extracurricular activities i have organized a lot charity events for help poor kindergartens centers. Additionally, i go to the poorest district in lima and with others benefactors we give gifts to poor children(i organize and manage all of those activities every month) . Moreover, i love music, and i have made a lot of presentations and won a lot of prices. I have also went to international competitions , the last one was in Europe and was an english competition, i didn’t win :frowning: . Then i have won different prices of math and science. In my school i help making the next activities: write in the newspaper, president of the “eco project” and the finance president of the student council. Now, i will take the SAT and wait for my results.

your extracurricular activities are good  . best of luck for your SAT.

You don’t have to be perfect! You just have to convince the admissions counselors that you are devoted to learning and will contribute the school’s environment. Focus on doing everything to the best of your abilities, remember to not put all of your eggs in one basket, and you’ll have given yourself the best possible shot at admissions.

Good luck, and remember to stay classy

You don’t have to be perfect, but when you’re applying to a school that has ~5% acceptance rate, you have to be pretty close. Because you didn’t put a GPA or SAT, I can’t really chance you. I can only say that your ECs sound decent, but nothing jumps out too much.

If you’re aiming for Harvard, you really should have at least a 2200 SAT and a 3.9 UW GPA. Anything less will hurt your chances significantly.
