I know we were all talking about OA and getting excited, but recently I've been having second thoughts about it. I might just spend that last week with my family and friends...and I don't want to sound bratty but the not showering for a week thing REALLY bothers me. =/
Do people who don't do OA really miss a lot?

yes if u dont do OA ur guaranteed to make no friends ur freshman year =P

haha jk! umm ull miss out on a fun experience but other than that i doubt it.

yeah, you won't technically miss out on anything...but it's an experience you may very well regret not taking part in later on. C'mon, zante...you can do it! You'll make a lot of friends and arrive at Princeton fresh and ready to tackle things head on after having discussed it with your OA leaders and group members for a full week. You can do the Princeton-Blairstown camp thingy if you really don't want to go out hiking.

If you don't do OA, you should do CA. CA will take care of your hygeine issues and you'll still be able to have the social experience that the OAers will have (sort of).

philntex- What's the Princeton-Blairstown camp thing?

It's basically OA without the hiking/nastiness (although you still camp outdoors). It's pretty much summer camp because it's all in one place, and you do activities like rapelling, ropes courses, etc. So if you don't want to go all-out hardcore, you can stick to the summer camp-like atmosphere at the Princeton-Blairstown center.

I am going to be mature, practical and boring and go for International Pre Orientation. After all it is a new country and I need to be mollycoddled a little :(

Also, this way I can stay for my grandmom's birthday before I leave :)

And zante the shower thing really really bothers me too...so we can revl in being bratty together :D

Guys,

I have a question about OA.

I think I read that you check into your dorm before going on OA, is that correct?

We'll be bringing Dizzyson from quite a distance, and if he does OA, we were trying to figure out whether we come with him before that or show up at the end. Am I right in thinking that we come at the front end, get him settled in his dorm and then he goes to OA?

(and Dizzymom then goes home and weeps for a month...)

Yes Dizzymom, they get dropped off for OA and you say goodbye.:(
It could be alot worse though......It could be somewhere other than Princeton!

Yeah, my parents are dropping me and all my stuff off for OA, then they're getting out of Dodge. Haha, you and my mom and the tears, dizzymom. You and my mom...

Zante, I'm definitely thinking about not doing it. I hate camping, hate not showering, and wanna spend more time with my family. So we'll see, but I think I'll be staying home.

how can you hate camping? The shower thing might be an issue, but it won't really bother you while you are out there. It will only start to bother you between the moment you come out of wilderness and the moment you shower. Which is a short interval of time.

how do you know?

cuz everyone wilderness-ing with you will be stinky : )
I went on a 3 day camping trip. I didn't even know I smelled until dad picked me up and wrinkled his nose at me when I got into the car.

"Thanks, dad."

stinky...

OK mea you just convinced me that OA is bad, bad, bad :(

oh no...! sorry, guys.

Haha! The no shower thing is definitely bothering me too. Plus I am one of the least outdoorsy people I know. Definitely thinking about CA...

if you don't like camping then don't do OA (only my 0.02$)
im also doing it to be able to check in earlier.

Phil,

I doubt it'll just be me and your mom...I suspect there will be lots more moms (and even dads) with tears!!! You guys forget how much you are loved by your parents :-)

Hmmm..I've actually never done anything like OA, and never thought about living-without-washing-for-a-week stuff. Hmmm. And that as my first impression to the US?

Hey Sucharita, what do you actually think about the internationl students' pre-orientation? Will that be "mature, practical, and boring", really?

One of my best friends is a clean-addict. He slept over a few days ago and ended up trying to clean my room and washing my dishes. I said i would hire him as a maid. He is the cleanests, most washed person i know. And still, he goes to the mountains, stays without a shower for a week and never complains. He takes a shower as soon as he gets home and thats it. I never once heard him complain about it! And he is the type to complain that it's hot in the city and he perspired and he is dirty.

My point is that the shower thing should be the last thing that makes you decide not to do OA.
