I'm a sophomore at Mississippi State University, majoring in Marketing and thinking about switching to accounting after taking Financial this year and enjoying it(also got an A).
My freshmen year I didn't do so hot and got a 2.89, with 28 hours total.
I have a 3.6 this semester after taking my Pre-Business classes. That should give me a 3.14 after this semester.
Now my question.
Is my GPA to low that it will be hard to pull it back up and major firms looking at me?
What is the best minor with accounting?
Does it take 5 years?
Any other info would be great. Thanks

OP, one strategy to apply for a first job when your overal GPA is low is to list your major GPA and overall GPA. I'd say you could even ignore the overall GPA. So, in your resume you would list something like Major GPA 3.7/4.0; Overall GPA 3.1/4.0. So yes, you can switch major to accounting and try to work as hard as you could to pull the grades up. Make sure you do well in accounting courses. After all, these courses will prepare you for the CPA exam. You'll be fine.

You didn't ask, but you also need to think if you stay in marketing, what would your GPA be? And with that GPA, would you say the job prospect is higher in marketing? Frankly, I don't think so. There are so many opportunities for an accounting major... The link the above post will take you there, so I won't repeat.

Hope this help.

If you actually enjoy accounting, then your GPA is a moot point. You should change majors.
