Thinking about transferring into UT PE

Hi guys and thanks for coming for my thread. Long story short, I was born and raised in the South, finished my last two years of high school in Seattle, enrolled at UW, and have since realized that since I'm going to want to live in the South (Okla/TX) when I'm older, I might as well get a jump start by transferring down. Also, I am interested in petroleum engineering which is not a major offered by UW. I have a few questions and would very appreciate it if you could help!

1) How difficult is it to transfer into UT? Specifically the PE program at Cockrell

2) I read that I have to complete 30 semester credit hours (or 45 quarter credits, I think), which would basically mean I could not transfer until after my freshman year. What would be the chances of some of those credits not transferring? Would some of the UT students already be taking more specialized classes? I don't think I'd take anything beyond Calc 125, 126 Chem 142, 152, 162, and the intro physics series.

3) Texas costs about $40,000 for OOS. I have an EFC of like $16.5k; however, UW doesn't give out any grants so I'm basically still paying the whole $26.4k/yr. Does Texas have OOS grants for my EFC range that would get me down to around $30,000 a year?

4) Also, if any of you happen to know, if I attent UT 9 months out of the year, and intern in Texas during the summer, will I be able to establish residency in TX?

5) What is the order or prestige? UT PE, TAMU PE, OU PE, UW AA.

6) What is the order or value? UT PE degree (without in-state and without grants) would cost me about 145k, OU PE degree (since I qualify for in-state there) is about 72k, UW Aero is about 100k

7) If anyone here thinks that TAMU may be more attractive to me than UT please tell me and state your reason! It will be very appreciated!

8) Also, if anyone knows about the Greek Life at UT please put it in your post!

Thank you very very much for taking the time to read this and add your two cents! It's all welcome and appreciated.

Anyone? All help is appreciated!

4-No.

8-I don’t know if this is what you are looking for… according to 2011-2012 UT common data set, 13% men who join frats and 17.7 % women who join sororities.

Thanks sunny day!

1) It’s very competitive. Had a friend with a 3.95 get in. If you look at the Transfer thread, the LONG one, you’ll see some other numbers.

2) Call them up and ask. There’s no way to answer this without doing all the legwork for you  They have transfer guides for in state schools, but I don’t think there’s anything for out of state schools.

3) No idea. But I’ve seen it talked about on threads here that it’s difficult to get grants if you’re out of state or an international student. Not sure how accurate that is, but that’s what I’ve read. Call financial aid up, but I’d wait until tomorrow, when their call volume slows down.

4) I worked with a girl that said she had to work for one whole year to establish residency. She was waitressing. I believe there were a minimum number of hours to work, as well. Like 20 a week?

5) UT PE, then UT PE, then UT PE. Haha, I don’t know. TAMU is right up there. And I’ve also heard great things about U of H’s program. Just built up there program right in the heart of the oil industry. I know people don’t think highly of U of H, but they are right in the thick of things in terms of oil.

6) no idea

7) It’s a great engineering program, but I don’t know much about PE specifically.

8) Absolutely no idea.

Thanks! I am planning on calling them up tomorrow, but I know it can sometimes be a circus trying to get answers out of the people, and often times members on this site know the answers off the top of their heads through experience.

Anyone have any info on the prestige of the programs I am considering?
