Thinking about transferring to Fordham or NYU

Currently I am a freshman at SUNY Geneseo. I am about to finish my freshman and so far I haven't done so bad, however not as well I expected. I felt I could've done much better in the fall, however I took an honors chem class that I absolutely struggled in and being away from home for a while for the first time certainly didn't help. This semester however, it seems I am doing much better. I got my midterms back and now aiming for a 3.8 or so this semester, hopefully brining my overall to a 3.5

Will finish 1 year of college
GPA-3.22(not including spring semester)
SAT-1720
Recieved a $10,000 scholarship from SUNY Geneseo
Fall Semester:Experimental Honors into Chem, Calc I, Intro to Bio, Bio lab, some sort of Art class and I came with some transfer credits in Chem lab, pre calc, and chem
Spring Semester: intro to bio II, chem lab, US history, calc II, and a required interdepartmental class

Originally, Fordham had offered me a lot of money before, it was almost the same price as SUNY Geneseo even including the scholarship Geneseo gave me so I'm hoping that they would maybe give me more.
I am also trying for NYU, but I never applied to them back in HS

Basically, living away from home is tough, although bearable. I came to SUNY Geneseo because they had a VERY strong science program and they accepted me into a 3/4 year program for osteopathic medicine with NYCOM (New York College of Osteopathic Medicine). However, it seems I may have been dropped from the program since one of the requirements was to hold a steady 3.5 all semesters and i got a 3.22 in the fall. Even if I don't get into Fordham or NYU, it is still bearable here in SUNY Geneseo.

Maybe I am just homesick and it will go away. I'll know when I get my decision letters in the spring next year. By then I'll probably finishing up my 2nd year here in SUNY Geneseo and I'll know if I can handle being away from home. Basically, I just want to see what opportunities I have back home

Thanks for reading over my thread :D

Oh forgot to mention
HS GPA- 92 or so
Extracurrulars:
Geneseo MAPS (Minority Association for Pre Med Students)
Volunteering for a local diabetes clinic

And I am currently a bio pre med major
I am thinking about changing to math or history, but still pre med focused, but thats another story

Hi there,

In my own opinion (based solely on stats), if you can get your GPA up to at least a 3.5 or higher, I think you have a pretty good shot at both Fordham and NYU. SAT is a bit low, but nothing to stress about. Your schedule is pretty rigorous too, so I think that will help a lot.

I’m actually planning on applying to both Fordham and NYU for Spring 2012; I’m transferring from U of Missouri. I found out I can’t stand the small town midwest, so I’m hoping NYC will be a great fit for me. I understand about the honors chem- I made the mistake of taking honors chem and calc II this semester, and it’s killing me. Good luck with your pre-med coursework, and I hope you get accepted!

Hey thanks for the reply,

Yeah thats also a reason why i want to go back to the city. I grew up in Queens and SUNY Geneseo is in the middle of farmland. I see pictures of friends in the middle of Manhattan having fancy diners and I’m stuck in my dorm deciding whether or not to go shopping today.

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes and I hope we both get into Fordham and NYU, goodluck!

hey everyone!
i applied to Fordham Lincoln Center (undecided) and NYU (Hotel and Tourism Management SCPS) for fall 2011! I will be going into my sophomore year.
My GPA is a 4.0 from Marymount Manhattan College, sats 1740 (ehhh), and i have a complete resume and thorough essay! I took 16 credits last semester and 16 this semester and have some AP Credits
I was wondering if anyone could let me now about the process and what happens, how long it was before you guys got your answers, how heavily SATs are weighted, how rare it is to get housing, and how long you guys had to decide if you wanted to accept the admission offer!
Ive been mad stressed out and i would really appreciate some help! So who ever has any answers to any of these questions, it will be greatly appreciated!
CHANCE ME! Please!
