I currently go to IU McKinney Law School, part-time student, and just starting my 2L semester. I’m thinking of transferring to Notre Dame Law School. I currently have a 3.188 gpa and in top 50% of the class. I think it would look better to graduate with a Notre Dame degree. What do you think my odds are to be able to get in.
Odds of admission as a transfer to Notre Dame Law School (a T-25 law school) from a Tier 3/4 law school are not good unless ranked at least in the top 25% of your current law school class. And it may take a higher rank such as top 20% or, possibly, higher.
What type of position are you seeking after law school ? If you want to work in a small firm locally, then the transfer may not be worthwhile.
What type of law do you want to practice ? If criminal defense, bankruptcy, or family law, for example, then the transfer may not be worthwhile.
P.S. Also, tuition for Notre Dame Law will be more than double the tuition at IU-Indy.
Since you are a part-time law student, I assume that you are employed. What type of work are you doing and does it relate to your interest in law ? (For example: One who works for the IRS & wants to practice tax law; or something related to immigration law, etc.)
The odds of being successful are extremely low (as median at a low ranked school generally won’t cut it, as publisher notes), but doesn’t hurt to apply.
Also, even more difficult to transfer from PT to FT programs.
Finally, if accepted you will definitely be full pay. Can you afford it?
