I will be an incoming freshman at nyu for the 2012-2013 school year and was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on third north. If anyone has any pictures that they could email me of third north that'd be incredible

and if you were accepted ED1 what dorm are you planning on choosing

I think my top 3 dorms are:

Hayden
Goddard
Third North

yeah eljamas I’m thinking my top three are:

Third North
Hayden
Founders

What school were you accepted into?

CAS. I want to live on Washington Square but I’m putting Third North as my 3rd choice because I hear the dorms are the newest and most nicely furnished.

Low-cost triple in Rubin for me! Not quite sure what my second and third choices are. I have my heart set on the low price and Fifth Avenue address.

Anyone else from ED1?

I’m a freshman at NYU living at Third North.

Third North is pretty awesome. Biggest dorm, cool rooms, nice people. I heard East tower is best, then south, then north. North tower supposedly sucks.

I would say one bad thing is the not so great dining hall food. But there’s a convenience store in the courtyard that uses dining dollars.

Oh, and the walk sucks, but hey! It helps you from gaining even more weight

I was originally going to dorm at Founders but I ended up at Third North because my roommates wanted to dorm there instead.
So my next choice would be Founders: super clean, large rooms.

They are both far from campus, but it’s definitely worth it.

Rubin? EH. Who cares if it’s on Fifth Ave. It’s boring. Horrible dining hall, nothing that great around it.

Hayden has a GREAT dining hall- vegan, great cookies, awesome salad bar. And it’s close to campus.

Weinstein is know as a jail cell LOL. Hence, cinderblock.

I know nothing about Goddard except that you have to apply for it.

Just don’t dorm at Brittany… please.

OH, and Third North is currently the only dorm with Wi-Fi!

Hi there!

I find raytardd’s post to be a little mis-leading. Third North, for starters, is the only dorm that comes with a suite kitchen. This, however, may or may not be a big draw because all Freshman living on campus are required to have a meal plan of sorts. It is the farthest freshman dorm on campus, but known as one of the better ones. Rooms range in size but are (I think) all suites with standard size double rooms and small common spaces/kitchens. The biggest downside, I’d have to say, is the 13,000 price tag, but if you can afford it and don’t mind an extra 5-10 minute walk to class, I’d say go for it.

Founders is next farthest away from NYU’s main campus buildings, but the newest Freshman dorm. Some people complain that the newness of the dorm and the tile flooring makes it seem like a hospital, but I for one haven’t really noticed that. Some of the rooms have fantastic views as well! No dining hall here though.

Rubin has a nice location! Also, the rooms were just renovated this summer, so some of the old complaints of the shabby appearance have waned. The dining hall isn’t the best, its true, but especially for a low cost option it’s decent.

Hayden is generally people’s favorite dorm. It’s close to campus, has a nice dining hall, rooms that aren’t too big or too small (though it does vary a bit) and a sort of typical friendly dormy feel. The walls are kind of thin, so on weekends the noise level can be annoying, but it’s not usually a problem. also, my friend’s dorm has a minor cockroach problem, so if bugs absolutely freak you out, you might be out of luck.

Weinstein people generally like because of the two dining halls located therein, and also because it’s really close to campus. I do think the rooms are a little bit ugly–and they have tile floors too, but all in all not a bad deal.

I only know one person who lives in Goddard (probably because it only houses 300 people), but she loves it! I don’t know much about the rooms either, but it’s a residential college, so it’s got a bit more of a community feel than the other dorms, supposedly. It’s also right in the middle of campus.

Brittany is where I live right now. I don’t really understand why people don’t like it as a dorm. The rooms are bigger than average (and my suite has 3 closets and a wardrobe), I happen to love the location (it’s about Rubin’s distance from campus) but on Broadway. I think it’s probably the lack of Air Conditioning, which wasn’t a big deal this year so far, but can probably be a pain for the first month of school. Also, there’s no dining hall, which I don’t mind, but people like the convenience of constant food. It’s also cheaper than most dorms, and the low-cost triple option helps too.

Oh, and third north is not the only dorm with wi-fi. Hayden definitely has it, and I think Founders does too. Brittany has it in the penthouse study lounge and the TV Lounge/Rhodes Room only, but is supposed to be getting it next year.

I heard 3N and hayden were the two freshman dorms that are considered “most social” how true is that? Also I head Founders is more of a “closed door dorm” how true is that as well?

oh, Elocin777
sorry, I meant third north is currently the only dorm with wi fi in its actual dorms
yes, founders and other places have wi fi, but on in places like the lounges or hallways. You have to have an ethernet cable or whatever
i dont know about hayden tho?
