Hey, this is my first post on here. So I already submitted my ED application to Columbia, but I'm very worried because today I saw what I got on my third SAT, and I did badly :/. I went down a lot (I was sick the day I took it), but the score I reported on my app is really solid. I know I have to report this SAT too, but will it drastically hurt my chances? I'm nervous.

If you already submitted your application, I don’t see why you would need to report any more SAT scores…

I thought Columbia requires that applicants submit all the testing they’ve taken/will take…
([Required Standardized Testing | Columbia University Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/firstyear/testing))

Well, if you indicated on the application that you are waiting for a score, then you probably need to report that score. But if you didn’t make mention of a future score and you submitted it before that score came out, I don’t think you’re violating any policy…

That’s the thing, my college counselor told me that I had to mark on the common app. that I had taken the October SAT. So I submitted the app. with my best scores, and I would rather they only saw that. I’ll send this score if I really have to, my question is: will it affect me negatively? Or will they just concentrate on my best score?

Thanks for answering, by the way.

sounds like you have to send the score because they are expecting it from what you indicated. not sending the score will then delay their review of your application, and you don’t want that to happen. Their policy is to use your highest scores anyway.

you may also want to send them a note explaining that you were sick the day you took the test.

Thank you both. I’m gonna send them soon and hopefully it’ll all turn out for the best.

@college4three: How would I be able to send them that note?

How drastic was the change in your score?

call undergraduate admissions office and see if they would prefer by mail or e-mail. you can find your regional representative online.

@InvisibleMonster: Um, pretty drastic. I had a really solid score (I won’t go into details - but it was in the middle 50%, and I’m an URM), but I went down 110 points…
I’m gonna send the score and hopefully they won’t judge me too harshly for it.

@college4three: Allright, thanks. I have to think about if I want to call, because I don’t want them to think I’m giving them an excuse.

I just e-mailed my counselor and she told me not to worry too much – they really are supposed to evaluate me by my highest score.
