This doesn't make too much sense..

Why did I get accepted out of state for William & Mary, but my admission to the University of Maryland as an in state resident was delayed until the spring semester? University of Maryland was my top choice by the way.

4.0 GPA unweighted, 4.4 weighted
SAT- 2040 total; 660 Verbal, 700 Math, 680 Writing

Play soccer and basketball
National Honor Society
Student government
30 hours of community service/year
Worked two jobs during the summer

-Although my teacher recommendations were incredible, I will be the first to admit that I did not take much time on the UMD essay, but would that be the difference?

That could be it. By slacking off on the essay, maybe the figured that you considered them to be your safety, and thus, had no qualms deferring you.

call them up, see if there was a mistake somehow on your app. Somewhere on this board someone advised saying you knew someone with lower stats getting in but i don't know if that would help. as bad as it sounds just go to a community college for one semester and tranfer. UMCP is getting harder for OOS students. Also your decision could be based on the major but i don't see why they would do that....

University of Maryland was not my top choice though, I was saying that the day after I got my letter and I was somewhat upset. I thought that if I didn't get into MD in state, then some of the other colleges I applied to would have been even harder for me to get into.

i'm sure things worked out for you.

Heh, I spent no time on my UMD essay and got scholars with a lower GPA... Call them and ask why you didn't get in, you definetely should have.
