This is How We Should Spell

Let's switch to this method, now.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060705/ap_on_re_us/simpl_wurdz

Oh, haha, I read that article yesterday. Couldn't sit through it at all. Switching to a new system will certainly make things more complicated, not less.

That was painful for my eyes.

0r shud i sai dat wuz panefull 4 mai i'z

I believe that the latter would be more appropriate in this situation.

well let's save that for the next generation since i've already learned to spell and don't want to learn how to spell phonetically.

we shud spel lyke that cuz its fun!

That's stupid.

NOOOOOO! shrieks

No, it's conflicting with our language today. What about the adults and senile citizens? They don't need to learn English again. This change won't happen unless a better method is devised and instituted.

^^ Solution: Kill the elderly off and teach the young.

Is this for real? That page hurts my eyes.

I hope they're not serious. Its hard enough to spell as it is.

The correct way of spelling is a way to distinguish between the educated and the not, or as I like to call them the adult labor class.

On the other hand, correct spelling is just another way to keep blacks down in school. Think about it. When you watch BET you see titles of "pieces of art" that have a more than nessecary amount of consonants or replace the "s" with a "z", or only use single letters like "u". This detracts from the intellectual capabilites.

Looking at it another way, its for the verbally minded to compensate by making fun of analytical minds who don't bother learning the correct spelling.

Or its a way to keep foreigners from voting.

Any other conspiracy theories?

Conspiracy theories aside, spelling in chatspeak would be very difficult for many people to get accustomed to. Minus those of us who already use it ;)

I don't watch BET, but I like Chamillionaire...hah.

Carnegie, hoo embraest teknolojy, died in 1919, wel befor sel foenz. Had he livd, he probably wuud hav bin pleezd to no that milyonz of peepl send text and instant mesejez evry dae uezing thair oen formz of simplified speling: "Hav a gr8 day!"

And they're making fun of internet speak now, sheeeesh. Soon they'll be denouncing "lol", the outrage! But seriously, that article made my eyes bleed :(

Personally, it wasn't that hard to read...I think some of us are over-exaggerating. I'll admit, I had to pause a couple of times while reading, but I wasn't losing any hair over it.

That's dumb. What does 'smatering' mean? And you can't spell 'the', 'th'. That doesn't make any sense.

Wow, that was quite hard to read.

Weird, but funny.

Let's erase all of our latin/greek/french/etc roots! Words aren't spelled how they sound because they are spelled based on the origin of the word. "Simplified spelling" ignores all the roots of language and therefore is even more illogical than how we spell things now.

Another anomaly in the natural progression of things... ie. complicated instead of "simplified": the Dvorak keyboard.
