I'm planning on transferring for next year, but the wait for transfer answers is killing me!
I really, really want to go to GWU for poli sci, but I'm self-conscious about admissions.
Can someone help me? Do I have a chance?

high school gpa: 4.8uw/5.2w (top 10-11%)
college gpa (after 17 hours): 4.0

lots of EC leadership in both high school and college, over 2 years of solid job experience including internships, state awards in debate and journalism, all honors/APs in high school (yes, I was very busy in high school!)
good essay that I slaved over/ good rec from jewish studies prof

Ah, it's depressing me to even type this because I feel so unqualified. I'm a midwestern girl from a small town and I feel like I don't fit into the description of the typical GWU student. When I went to visit, I met all these intense people from New York and New Jersey who went to these awesome high schools. Definately different from what I'm used to at home! But I'm really passionate about this school (if there was ED for transfers, I would have done it in a second), so do I have a chance when answers come back in April??

Think about transfering to GWU long and hard. Since you already feel that you don't fit into the description of the typical GDub student...then run away as fast as you can. I went to GW, and I'm transfering out (more for personal reasons). But the student body is more concerned with what they wear to class than how they do in class. If there's something wrong, they have daddy to buy them whatever they want. The whole student body is from NY, NJ, CT and they are very snobby and stuck up. And since you're not from that area you may find being with these people difficult.

This is just my observation of the school. You should talk to more students about this because the majority of students are VERY unhappy there. Check out studentreview.com.

I think what I meant is that background-wise, I'm very different from the typical student. I didn't go to a high school that had the kind of resources that these amazing high schools in New England have, and I'm afraid that it's going to make me look like a slacker because I don't have this laundry list of AP courses (My school had a very weak AP program).

The kind of kids who go to GW don't bother me. I already have some friends who go there, and I have no problem ignoring snobby people. I was just saying that their academic backgrounds seem kind of intimidating, and I really, really still want to go to the school but I'm self-conscious about my chances of admission and hope that the kind of resources they had won't be held as a standard against me.

Sounds like your frustration in terms of not having enough academic opportunities would make a great essay/part of essay (I thought college would be different, but . . .) or supplementary update letter or the like . . .

Another overachiever with false humility. Chi, are you seeking a stroke to your ego?

You know your numbers are excellent, your EC's stellar, and your letter exemplary. This is what you wanted to hear right?

GWU admits people from all over the nation, so you don't have to worry your pretty little mid-western head about it.

And in what what do you feel unqualified? Did your planned cure for cancer fall through? Is your AIDS research conflicting with your presidency of the 4H club?

Puhlease.

You are the type of person that writes their essay and then sends it off..then comes here and asks people's opinions. You don't care what people here think, or you would have asked BEFORE you sent it. You feel you wrote a good essay and you want people to see it and tell you it's great, and your great, and your grades are great and you are just so darned special and unique how could GW refuse someone so picture perfect?

Often times, many of us, myself included say things, and are unaware of how they come across to others. This posting is one of them. Most people, especially offline, won't ever say what I just said...but it doesn't mean it isn't the truth. It's just that the Internet affords people a modicum of anonymity not enjoyed elsewhere...so while my message was hash, I think it fairly accurate...and it might explain the lack of responses to your thread...

...people read so many of these over-achieving threads they are somewhat nauseated, especially at this time of year.

The great thing about my being anonymous, is that you are too...so while you may not be aware of how your posting comes across...now you are, and there is no reason to feel embarrassed...better to do it here than in real life with people you see everyday in class or at work.

Sorry, but if your goal is to embarrass me, you're far from achieving it. You are successful, however, in coming off as a pompous jerk.

You have no idea what kind of person I am aside from a few numbers, so if you don't have anything constructive to say, just keep it to yourself. Perhaps that's what you should have done in the first place.

LOL. Don't worry about it. He tries to do the same thing to me. But, he is often very wrong, but attempts to make lame arguments that he is right.

Take for instance i said that CC offer RN program. He says no. I bring him links. He says no. Then another poster brings up the fact that 40& of all RN only have CC education.

Xteensb is right. I go to GWU too and want to transfer. While I can't speak for the Eliot School (I believe it's pretty darn good), I can tell you that CCAS (liberal arts) is very weak. The people are snooty upper class brats. Now I say these things harshly, but the truth is unless you are like them you will be miserable. It's hard to find normal folks at GWU, and the education isn't worth having no friends. The University doesn't care about you, but it loves its money. Go to studentsreview.com, everything said there is pretty much true.

I was pondering a trasnfer to George Washington University, but the cost is prohibitive; there are many higher-ranked schools, with better programs, that are easier to transfer to and they are usually much less expensive. An example of this is UT - Austin, but the deadline is today.
