this school has me upset

Faenix is one of my good friends that I've known since 8th grade, and I can personally attest that he has really wanted to go to WUStL, and demonstrated his great interest for the college through the ED option and through keeping in contact with the admissions office. He does have many valid points, especially the allusion he makes with college admissions being about real life. This "bitterness" that is left after being rejected or waitlisted or deferred is only the beginning. Be like me, journo, and many of the other applicants on this board and either take initiative and show candor for the school or just move on.

Yes, we know that WUStL wants kids who want to go there, and yes, there is evidence of, at times, waitlisting "overqualified" kids. So what? The admissions office isn't run by a robot; it is run by people. People want others to care about them. That's why we see 1600s and national award winners waitlisted from the Ivies while a 1400s hard worker is accepted. It just shows how important these intangible factors (such as demonstrated interest in the school) counts at competitive colleges such as WUStL.

semp, those waitlisted at Wash U but accepted at HYP are few and far between, and you know it- thats why you are trying to discredit Wash U's admissions system so you may cling to ivy league hope. Good colleges know good prospective students when they see them, and they oviously didn't see one in you.

EDIT: "been told by an adcom that my essay is great"

just like Wash U told you you were being recruited? Hmmm......

obviously this thread has denigrated into personal attacks and so I wont waste my time with anonymous people over the internet

good luck to those who deserve it

there is a difference between the truth and personal attacks.

"Good colleges know good prospective students when they see them, and they oviously didn't see one in you."

if that isnt a personal attack I dont know what is. and obviously as you'll see from the previous posts there are a lot of candidates who were waitlisted from washu and accepted to better schools

actually mike i know about 25ish people accepted to stanford/harvard/yale EA and were waitlisted. i dont know a single person who was accepted EA that wasn't waitlisted...

no one is attacking the academics or education offered at WUSTL, their admission process is known by all, even professors (my mom worked there and everyone knows this is what WUSTL does). WUSTL is infamous for waitlisting over-qualified applicants. theres no point in denying this fact, and this is WUSTL's own problem cuz i know a number of people who definitely should have gotten in and WUSTL was their first or second choice. But with a 25/26% yield rate, there isnt much WUSTL can do

Well.. there ARE a lot of candidates who were waitlisted from washu and accepted to Ivys, if you mean Ivys when you say "better schools"
but then again, there ARE a lot of candidates who were waitlisted from those so-called "better schools" and accepted to WashU.

This just attests to the fact that there isn't a simple formula for college admissions :S
All you waitlisted folks-- wait a little longer, come April and you will be happy because of the flood of fat envelopes I am sure you will get :)
