Please help me out. I have SAT 2290, ACT 34, SATII: 800mathii, 800physics, 800korean, 780chem. 5s on four APs from self-study. My school is no AP/IB. Good ECs.

My biggest worry is that I sucked, very badly, this semester. I had ranked top 1-2% up until the last semester. This semester, I was busy with college application and slacked schoolwork. Plus, some of my friends told me senior grades did not count, and I was stupid enough to belive it. I am getting 40% at best! Will this be a huge problem? I am petrified that I might fail at all good schools b/o this semester's school report (mid-year report, you know). I am totally panicking.

Again, will this semester's grades break my admission? I applied CAS RD.

what do you mean 40% at best?

to be ranked 40% this semester…

Probably it will be a huge problem if you dropped from top 1% to 40%.

similar scenario here. What if I go from being a 4.0 student to getting 3 Bs out of my 7 classes?
Do senior grades REALLY matter or are they just checked to see if you’re not failing or something?

im pretty sure as long as you don’t get a D or lower you’re fine. if you get a C the college may put you on academic probation. it doesn’t really mean anything (not notated on your transcript) and it’s usually for one semester.

rescinding an acceptance is a big deal and unless you show that you just bailed out sr year (Cs or lower) I wouldn’t anticipate any consequences. if you are worried, you can email or call the admissions and they will let you know how it works for their particular college. i am going to assume some colleges may stricter than others.

oh we were asking about how bad grades would impact our regular decision chances. OP applied CAS RD

oh sorry!

a slip in grades for admissions chances is (i would think) a big deal. i would think Cs on your transcript would be a major disadvantage unless you are a very compelling applicant in other areas. there is so much competition that adcoms can be really picky. you pretty much have to be “perfect” until you get that letter.

i would think they also look at you’re which classes dropped. if ALL your classes went from As to Bs or worse, Cs, I wouldn’t think you could get in unless you have a very good explanation. If you just dropped slightly you should be ok.

now, every college is different and it is also reflective of you major/expressed interest. if your grades drop in those areas i would be worried. more competitive colleges are also going to be less merciful.

just try to keep everything in perspective. one lower grade in a class outside of your major/expressed interest would not be that big of a deal. several lower grades will be.
