Thomas Eliot House

What's the situation?

What situation?

Yeah, I guess the thread starter is pretty bare.

Basically, I wanna know how life in TE is:
a)social
b)people
c)room quality

Just how is life at TE (maybe also how it compares to other dorms)?

Thanks!

As social as you want it to be.
People between 19 and 22 years old.
Good rooms.
Closest to Bear's Den, you don't need umbrella in rainy days to get your food.

All in all, residential life at Wash U is top-notch! Don't worry, you will enjoy Eliot House & most of your housemates....

Haha, alrighty-thanks.

That 19-22 comment was pretty lame, though.

There's Thomas Eliot House and William Greenleaf Eliot Residential College.

Anyone know why one is "house" and one is "residential college?" Is one for lowerclassmen (mostly sophs) and the other for upperclassmen? One has a descriptive website; the other's got nothing but one guy's picture. What's up with that?

WGE is the residential college, made up of Danforth (freshmen), Shepley and Wheeler.
THomas Eliot House is one of the newer residential halls, built in 2003. I think it will be a sophomores dorm this year. The rooms are good sized and beautiful. I was there yesterday and the housekeeping staff were getting the rooms ready for CAJE and I got to see some of the roooms. THey are good sized rooms and beautiful. The ones that I saw even had mirrors on the sliding doors for the closets. The closets are not that big but they have other storage in the suite. The one thing I noticed though is that the only laundry room is down on the lower level.
Anyway if you have any questions about Eliot, let me know and I will relay it to my son who will be an RA there next year. Here is a layout of Eliot House-http://reslife.wustl.edu/housing_selection/pdfloors/thomaseliot.pdf

Thanks! I never knew that. S was in Lee/Beaumont last year and will be in Eliot this fall. Sounds like he lucked out.

Yahoo! Thanks for the great news.

JM, do you know what floor your son will be in? S1 will be one of the 2nd floor RAs. He will be helping out with the CAJE, August 5- 9, that's why he was able to move in earlier (yesterday). He was in Danforth his freshman year and Park his sophomore and junior year, but he was impressed with Eliot. The only thing is that they did not have common rooms in the suites like they did at Park. It does not matter though because they have a good study room at the end of the floor and the lounge on the first floor is really nice.

You're welcome, dearsiryes. I am guessing you will be in Eliot house, too?

I think he's on the third floor. He said it's a double, but I don't know if it's a double that's like a double in a traditional dorm or a double that's part of a four-person quad. It's hard to tell from the floor plan.

Yep, I'm in Eliot. I'm in a double on the first floor.

THere are different configurations for the doubles, but the one that I saw on the second floor- two beds in a room (of course!) but there are two rooms in the suite and two bathrooms- one directly opposite each room. So there are two bathrooms for four people. There was even one large walk in closet as you walk into the suite in addition to the closets in the rooms. And another thing which I think was nice- there was a handicapped accessible bathroom in one of the suites. Sweet!

Wait so you guys…
whats the difference between Thomas Eliot House
and Thomas Eliot B House ?

and my another question is does girls and guys share the same floor in Thomas Eliot house? or do they share the same house(dorm)?

I’m going to be on the 2nd floor of Eliot this coming year.

The Eliot House is a freshman-only dorm. The Eliot B House holds sophomores and other upperclassmen. The two combine to create the Eliot Residential College. I believe this is the inaugural year for the Eliot B House.

Yes, the dorms and floors are co-ed.

Jazzymom-I’ve been in both dorms and going from Lee/Beau to Eliot will be like night and day! Your S did luck out - congrats!

I’m going to be in eliot house this year as an incoming freshman. Does anyone know if it has the tempurpedic mattresses like some other dorms?

^Pretty sure it doesn’t, but not 100%

too bad, but not that big a deal
