im in lee 116. do you know anything about it?

Nope, sorry, I’m just an incoming freshman myself. I’m actually hoping for some details myself.

Eliot house room 2131! I don’t know much but i think Eliot is really close to the bears den…and i think the rooms are pretty good sized:

lee’s traditional (communal bathrooms), and in the same res college as it’s sister dorm beaumont, another freshmen dorm (Lee-Beau). it has so called “riot proof hallways” (meaning the hallways wind around and aren’t straight like rubelmann’s are) and common areas with balconies (unique I believe).

here’s a map of the south 40: [url=<a href=“Residential Life - Students”>Residential Life - Students]South 40 Map | Explore the South 40 Community | South 40 — A Revitalized Residential Community | Washington University in St. Louis/url

I’m in Beaumont. Any information? I think I’m in Substance Free housing. What’s that like?

Beau is a traditional dorm. Old and cramped. Not nearly as nice as a modern. I would have hated to live there my freshman year. Sub free will be quieter than other floors but hopefully the people will be social.

^holy crap, man. why the hating?

I lived in Beaumont my freshman year and although the building itself is older, the rooms are still quite large (when compared to many other universities…). What I liked most about Beaumont was that every room opens into a hallway so it’s very easy to socialize with your floormates. We always ended up just hanging out in each other’s rooms. Also, there’s nothing quite like waking up in the morning and finding a large proportion of your floor sharing the bathroom.

Sub-free means that you can’t have illegal substances on your floor and you can’t be intoxicated on your floor. Note: not all people who live in sub-free floors are sub-free people. Basically, people just have to go elsewhere to party. Of course, sub-free floors do have a higher incidence of people that do not partake, but by no means will your entire floor be against alcohol or other ‘substances.’

Thanks for all the information! That sounds really cool.

Any comments on Danforth? Is that a good location and does it have any common areas on the floors? I’m on 4th. Thanks.

Danforth is a modern and it is pretty new. Most, if not all of the suites consist of two double rooms joined together by a bathroom. I can’t remember if each floor has a common room, but I know there is one on the ground floor with couches, a TV and a pool table. The location isn’t great; it’s pretty far away from Bears Den and the rest of campus.

Here’s a map of the South 40. Note that Danforth is at the bottom left, Bears Den is at the same location as South 40 House, and main campus is at the top right north of Gregg Hall.

I was in Danforth first year…I liked it (except I lived in Gregg second year which was much closer to everything). Then I got Village last year, and again this year. Village is awesome.

Most modern dorms are the same, plus or minus a few things you will have forgotten about after a couple weeks like distance.
Same with traditional dorms.

^You were in gregg from 09-10? We were apparently in the same dorm then.

I was on Gregg 2 Sp 10, Danforth 05-06, Shepley Fall 06, 3 year mloa inbetween, Village 2 10-12

Any news on Koenig?

Koenig (pronounced Kay-nig) was built in 2006 so it’s very new, looks like a castle and is very close to campus while not being too far away from Bears Den. The only disadvantage in my mind is its relative seclusion from the swamp and the rest of the dorms on the 40.

Here’s a picture of the Liggett/Koenig ResCollege (show your parents this picture and watch their jaws drop):

Thoughts on Umrath?

Very new, close proximity to Bears Den and campus.

I couldn’t find a picture of it online, but its architecture isn’t TOO different from South 40 House:

http://i.imgur.com/tdD3q.jpg

That’s Bears Den on the ground floor, and this picture was practically taken from Umrath. So you can see how close you are to the busiest part of the 40.

I’m in Park 462 :)

I’ve heard Park is pretty average in terms of modern dorms and is farthest away from main campus.

Park is not a bad dorm. It’s pretty far from campus but not the farthest. It’s not too far from Bears Den or the mail room. At least it’s a modern. And depending on your furniture setup (pro tip: raise your bed and put the dresser underneath it) you can make your room feel huge.

You’re on the fourth floor (Park 4), which is a little unfortunate because you’ll have to take a lot of stairs. One benefit is that in Park you get a big common room with couches and tables, although it doesn’t have a flatscreen TV like Park 1 does.

Of the three rooms in your suite, yours is also tucked the farthest away from the hallway so you won’t be able to see people walking down the hallway. You’ll have to put forth more effort in order to be social.
