I think these questions are what separate the Yale student from a student from the h in Camb, MA.
Makes sense

ahh i loved doing these questions! .. well some of them
sharing time:

Free afternoon- I'd sit at the MoMA writing stories based on a painting. I'd make fruit-filled crepes with my friends. Then we would do a 1000-piece puzzles while watching The Office.

Proud- I'm proud of my multilingual accomplishments. I currently speak three languages with near fluency (English, Korean and French) and am learning two more (Spanish and Chinese).

2 Qualities (i hated this one)- I often get carried away by emotions and so I wish I were more practical. However, I also admire those who transcend practicality and imagine through a different perspective.

Better at doing- I have an okay memory but I wish I had a photographic one. Just imagine all the languages I could learn in a few months and all the books I could mentally read on a bus.

Renewed- When I make a new friend, I feel like I am able to then vicariously explore an alternate life and interact with a whole new perspective.

^^Wow your answers were really good.

^ lol. Define "good." If you mean creative and grammatically/syntactically sound, yes, those are good answers. But just like essays, these short answers are neither "good" nor "bad" once you get into the upper range of applicants. It's a matter of preference :)

I agree with hookem. Weird.

I definitely agree with hookem. They were well written, but a couple just sounded weird to me. But maybe that's just because I enjoy simpler language.

i concur that these questions were really interesting to answer..quite different from other applications.

Personally.. I thought they were much more fun to answer than other colleges lame ones. What's your favorite website? Fail.

After the Yale application, I thought Bing's was really boring. I mean, no supplement means less work but I thought every school's application should be as interesting as Yale's.
I guess I was WRONG!

I thought my answers were ok. Didn't think they were brilliant and they don't stand out together as "wow" :P

What would you do with a free afternoon?

"Sit down with a good book and a carton of peach or raspberry sorbet. Play capture the flag with friends at the local park."

Name one thing of which you are especially proud.

"My Rayado patch represents the toughest and most exciting twenty days of my life. I hiked 170 miles (and got lost) in New Mexico with four other guys I'd never met before."

What two qualities do you admire most in other people?

"The ability to be both a leader and a follower. An open mind."

What do you wish you were better at being or doing?

"Parallel parking. I forgot to practice for my driving test, and I had to teach myself how to do it in the middle of the test. I barely succeeded on the final attempt!"

What makes you feel physically and mentally renewed, other than a good night’s rest?

"Playing my violin. As I lose myself in the music, I can feel the stresses of the day fall away."

^Pretty good. I really like the last one.

It's kinda cool to see everyone's take on life. I guess that's the whole point of them, to see how you look at certain situations.

I'll evaluate you as an adcom would.

Blah blah blah. Totally made up CLEARLY orange sorbet is waaay better than peach. But raspberry is pretty good. We have a dilemma.

"My Rayado patch represents the toughest and most exciting twenty days of my life. I hiked 170 miles (and got lost) in New Mexico with four other guys I'd never met before."

You're proud you got lost?? Instant rejection.

What two qualities do you admire most in other people?
"The ability to be both a leader and a follower. An open mind."

We are Yale. Not Harvard. We train opressors and dominators for the political arena, not follower/leader hybrid freaks. Rejected.

What do you wish you were better at being or doing?
"Parallel parking. I forgot to practice for my driving test, and I had to teach myself how to do it in the middle of the test. I barely succeeded on the final attempt!"

Omg noob!!! Everyone can parallel park with ease except you!!

What makes you feel physically and mentally renewed, other than a good night’s rest?
"Playing my violin. As I lose myself in the music, I can feel the stresses of the day fall away."

No way.. music relaxes you? yeah plus 50000 other music applicants.

Denied for sure. Sorry

^ I love you, Mal!

haha it's true, there goes my entire application. grades, scores, essays all for naught :(

No you are fine! As long as you drew a skull and bones logo in crayons and sent it in you're fine.
That automatically gets you past the secretaries of doom, and possibly the regional reps of really wrong rectum intrusiveness.

I used a sharpie, I thought it was hardcore. Mistake?

No that's perfect.

For harvard if you send in a pig it works the same. i sent in a my-little-pony with oink written on it and i got a likely letter...

OMG
when Mal begins a joke, I just feel it.
And they are pretty funny.
We are Yale not the h
lol
could we refer to them as the h from now

Well.. look at it this way...

PSYCHE! No joke for you!!!!
