I'm still anxiously awaiting my decision at McGill. The website says that my application has been reviewed and my decision is pending. By the way, here are my stats:

Ethnicity/Gender/Residence: White/Male/New York City
School: Private school in NY with a decent reputation

SAT I: 670 CR, 650 Math, 700 Writing
SAT II: 640 Literature, 650 Math IC
GPA: 88.5 Sophomore, 89.6 Junior, 92.0 Senior (mid-year report)
Recommendations: Not required by McGill, but they say they look at them if you send them and I THINK mine are pretty good.
ECs: I know McGill does not take these into account at all so I won't even bother posting them.

My brother currently attends McGill but I know that McGill doesn't take legacy factor into account at all. And for the record, my brother only had an 1180 on his SAT I (but with a better 92 overall GPA).

American white male, bilingual and competency in another
Ohio Public School: rated excellent (surprisingly)

Best ACT subscores (2 sittings):
English: 34
Critical Reading: 30
Math: 28
Science: 26
(Those of you "critical thinkers" may see that I'm not the engineer type)

7-semester gpa: 3.56
junior/senior year gpa: 4.25

Okay:
I applied to Arts and Science (not Artsci, but the two separate faculties) and was accepted to both.
White, female, Michigan, I'm at a private school with a fair reputation.
SATI: 710 Math, 750 Writing, 800 the other section
SAT II: 800 Math II, 710 Biology (Molecular), 640 Modern Hebrew
GPA 3.8.
Edit: oh yeah, APs: 5 English Language, 4 US History, 4 Biology
Hope that was helpful!

school:
ultra-competitive prep school (3 people got As in english last year)
junior year gpa: 3.5
senior year gpa: 3.6

aps: 6 for junior/senior year

location:
cambridge, mass
ethnicity: white
gender: female

extracurricular:
hook: set designer, sent portfolio and slides as supp material
other stuff: head/founder of club, school paper columnist, varsity ice hockey, acting, drummer

i'm psyched. this is the first school i've heard from officially so it's nice to know i have at least one in my back pocket.

Hyrule: I am very concerned that young adults measure their worth, whether there is room for "a person like you", by whether they are accepted by any particular college or not. I hope you are accepted by McGill, but that is no reflection on who you really "are". What is essential and important to becoming a successful and a authentic person cannot be measured by grades, SAT scores or class rank. As a 50+ year old adult, I can say ( without lecturing ) that I have had numerous ups and downs, it is how I learn from them that helps me grow.

Rilke, the German poet, writes in The Man Watching, that we grow by our defeats, not our victories:

"Winning does not tempt that man.
This is how he grows: by being defeated, decisively,
by constantly greater beings."

So ,you are great just as you are. If you get into McGill that is wonderful, if not other wonderful opportunites await. I realize how hard this is, but it is not a reflection on "you" at all. Carpe diem.

Thanks mcgilldad, that was very nice of you to say, but I think you took my comments out of context.

Of course my GPA and SAT scores have nothing to do with me as a person or even very much about how smart I am (I happen to know that I don't push myself nearly as much as I could academically).

What I meant to say was "I hope a person with my stats can get into McGill", not "a person like me". You know what I mean?

What great words, mcgilldad! It's easy for students to forget that academics don't "rule all" and that we can learn just as much, maybe more, from the things we don't succeed at with ease. Your kid is really lucky to have such an understanding and supportive parent ;)

Hyrule: I am sorry if I misunderstood....but Staring is my daughter, so let me get
a little bit of pleasure and affirmation (g). She is home for "winter break" and having some fun with me....

Just to make sure that there's someone with lower stats on here lol

Even tho I was accepted/entered in 2004, there's my stuff

Asian Male
International school in Hong Kong

Accepted to all my choices in management, since I only applied to different streams in management (which doesn't really matter since you can switch around once you're here)

High school cumulative GPA: 3.4545 or just below a 90% average
SAT1: English: 700; Math: 670
SAT 2: Literature: 650; Writing: 670; Math1C: 640
Only APs in Biology and US History, neither of which I tried that hard at because I was already accepted into McGill by February of senior year so I got 3s on both.

Nothing spectacular about my stats, but I still got in :-P

david, your stats are virtually identical to mine (2040 vs. 2020 on the SAT if you include writing, same SAT IIs and similar GPA), so it's good to know that you got in.

im in canada, so i don't do SATs etc. my average is 89%, and in all likelihood i'll get in (arts)-and i'm from ontario, which is the hardest place to get in from. they looooove international students since you guys pay higher tuition, and their standards for US students are lower then the ones for ontario, quebec, and the rest of canada. mcgill isn't my 1st choice however...and unfortunately we find out later than US students so i probably won't know FOR SURE if i'll get in until april or so. anyways the point of this post is that it isn;t as hard to get into mcgill as you may think it is. i know a guy in 1st year arts who had an 83% last year, and no SATs/ACTs.

im an intl. student at the intl. school of geneva - switzerland
didn't send my SAT's
really bad mid year report tho (lowest out of all my hs ones :s)....average of 5.5/7 if not previous were around 6.3/7
we dont rank either
hmm...wat else
female, dutch/peruvian....quadrilingual?...
full IB diploma programme, with an extra higher subject (so 3 standards n 4 highers)
i thinks that pretty much everything that went into my app!!

im so happy :D:D....i love montreal

...katiebee....lol...dats so true about the intl students...theres always about a dozen applicants from my school...n its always about 10/12 who get in....but then again most applicants have better stats den mine
