Those who went to orientation already

No...? Nothing special anyways. They may have one of those sheets that are exactly the same as the pdf one available online.

yeah, my OC wasn't very accomdating.

yeah, they did give out a map. wasn't that helpful, you'll be following around your counselor most of the time.

There are map/information posts around campus and I'm sure you could find a map somewhere. It's not that hard to navigate and you really have to try to get lost.

or, you can just stick your Bruincard on your forehead and receive help instantly.

haha, i tried that, it didn't work. :(

HAHA... as in the Bruincard didn't stick or help didn't come? :P

the card stuck, help didn't come. :)

I'm confused about the laptop part. How do you connect your laptop to the Internet? Is there wireless? And I'm not exactly sure how wireless connection works together :( I heard you need a flash drive and I already have one, but other than that what else? Thanks for all the inputs!

read about my experience (from an engineering perspective) here:

http://www.onlywired.com/2006/07/16/an-engineers-guide-to-the-ucla-transfer-orientation/

bring good shoes and sunblock and sunglasses :) attend as many workshops as possible. go to the scavenger hunt.

the speeches were not as dry as i expected them to be.

you won't get lost. you're going to the same places over and over so don't worry about that!

and yea i agree with other posters --- when i arrived i noticed there already being HS groups of friends.

Bringing a blanket is a good idea too. It's FREEZING at night, because of the AC. Either I couldn't find the "off" button, or it doesn't exist.

yeah how about that ac. i tried turning the thermo up and it only goes to 75. and that didnt change a thing. for current plaza residents, can you turn the AC off

Citan: I liked your little journal write. I'm actually going to the freshman orientation, but it was interesting to read about your experience...and I think that there will be some similarities between our orientations.

is there time given to take a photo for the bruin card?

Time is given on the first day of the session in the morning.

Namaste, yes you should be able to turn the A/C off. however, the fan doesn't actually turn off... it's either on or on auto. at least that's how it is in De Neve...

as far as order of signing up for classes... my OC let ppl with laptops sign themselves up with the wireless in his room. the people using his computers went in a logical order of trickier schedules going first (if you want a class of 20 people and there's 19 in it, you go first).
in other words, get george as your OC and you're fine! :)

haha..george...man...that guy cracks me up =P

Zoolander parody... :p
