Yes, I've searched and read many threads, but I figured I'd post and ask the people who have been going their since last years thread and whatnot...I got in to NYU Poly Higher Education Program. I also Rutgers New Brunswick for Comp sci. I am considering Rutgers, but in terms of fute, NYU Poly, my homestate NYU is a great place to live and the starting and mid salary is good for NYU Poly Grads...now questions...NYU....I want to dorm how would that work...since it's part of NYU now, would I dorm at NYU or what? Could I potentially take classes at NYU or no? Do I have access to things NYU students have? How's the social life? This is important. I like to party here and there and I would like girls to be there as well. I don't want to go to a college and not have fun. I am still waiting to hear back from a number of colleges, but since I got this decision early it's in my consideration. Could people give me the most detailed feedback possible? How's the area, is it safe? How's the course work?? My major is comp sci. I want to potentially work with a company like google or MS or something one day. All feedback appreciated!

Dorms: No, you’d dorm at Poly, in Brooklyn. You may take classes at NYU. You have access to Bobst and a few other NYU facilities. Poly really isn’t a party school, but there are partiers. Keep in mind that Poly is mad hard, and it’s really hard to get your party on & get good grades. No, like it’s so hard. There’s a lot of work, and it’s pretty hard to study while intoxicated. :P

The area is safe; we’re right next to 911 HQ for all of NYC. And like I said, the workload is insane…if you can stick with it, sure, why couldn’t you get a job at Microsoft? or an internship at least. I know people from Poly who’ve taken that route.

Thanks. I’m not a partier, but here and there once in a while would be nice. Damn, I want a nice social life too =\ what do you, the kids do for fun? Is the workload really very insane? I got into HEOP…not that it matters

hahahhaa yeah you’ll have a social life. in your dreams!!!

just kidding. no seriously, you’ll be fine. there are people who like to go out and have a good time. and there are dorm parties; you just have to know where to find them mostly there’s stuff outside of the dorms though, because res life is insanely strict. like, so strict, it’s painful.

and honestly, yes, the workload is insane. if you choose to both party and study, you’ll find your sleep-time approaching the negatives i mostly oscillate between partying-and-sleeping and studying-and-sleeping, so when i have my funtime and my grades start off horrible, and when i notice a pattern picking up, i go into intense study-mode and avoid all party-goers and hang out in the library and such. and then the process repeats when i become comfortable enough with my grades. but I also have a job, so I think that definitely limits my fun time (I used to work 20hr/week!)

oh and i’m personally a concert-goer. i figure, im in the city, might as well take advantage of the abundance of awesome concerts, shows, venues, events, etc. others go bar-hopping or shopping or just lounge in the lounges. it depends on what you’re into.

I was wondering how does the NYU HEOP deal work, as in what are the admissions requirements concerning academics, and when do you get an interview? How long after you send out your app?

cause i applied around feb 25 and that was with the deans app…

Thanks everyone

If you applied and your app is completed (which takes a while with processing and filing - there are a lot of applications and materials coming in!) then it ought not to take much more than a month, imho. I can’t tell you about the “HEOP deal” because I’m not with HEOP. You can call Poly Undergrad Admissions though (1-800-polytech) and ask. Good luck.

You can only pick 2 of these choices:

Social life
Sleep
Good Grades

Hi, I have got an offer from NYU POLY for ms in cs program. Do you have any idea about the university? i am bit concerned about living expense. Will I be able to cover living expense with part time job. pleas do share if you have any info.

Young people nowadays want all their classes to be interesting, they want a nice social life and then, when they graduate, they want a job that pays 100 K for a person with little real life experience and they want to be able on Faceboook at work and buy a BMW right after college. Good luck in the real world!
