Just curious how many current USC students have received their email about Housing Renewal, and how many have gone through the GUI to select next year's housing?

Per the paperwork, sounds like "Special Interest Housing" and "Continuing Communities" (keep your same building) have first priority. It also looks like existing Freshman (next year's sophomores) have next priority.

The "Online Application Period" is from 1/17/07 to 1/21/07.

How is it going, how did it go, for those who have gone through it?

the application was very easy. i had a few problems because i applied too early the first time...there were still bugs in the system heh. but that was my problem, so otherwise, it was fine...i already accepted my roommate (one of my current floormates).

because we can't all be in one apartment (4 people max for any of the University apartments), the plan right now is to get as many people into Webb as possible in order to be an elevator's ride away from each other haha. though, if you'll remember, housing preferences for existing Freshman don't matter at this stage...

I've found the website to be very glitchy. It would accept one thing, then redirect me back to a spouse/dependents page. I would try to input the student ID of my desired roommate and an error would occur.

The system just doesn't feel polished and I'm not confident it recieved all of my data.

"D" completed hers last night. I don't think it took but 15 or 20 minutes to actually complete the form (or whatever it is). The majority of time was spent choosing her top 5 options. Her first choice was Webb. Any comments on that one? :)

it seems like almost everyone's first choice is Webb, unfortunately! i guess only the lottery numbers will tell who gets it. it's an amazing building, from what i've seen. i've spent a while in there, and it's just plain nice, on campus, and right next to the gym.

Bummer. I didn't know that. Does it help that she applied for the 1 bdrm/2 person rooms? Only reason i ask is that money is a factor for many people. Second and third choices were Troy Hall and Troy Hall East.
.......wait.......don't tell me.......those are probably the 2nd and 3rd most popular choices as well? :(

Well, looks like she is going to have to wait and be surprised. Do you know when they find out? I'm pretty sure she'll get one of her top five choices.

i'm pretty sure you can't get past the Roommate section because everything else depends on your lottery number, which you don't get until after the application period.

ebayispayingforcollege: This is too funny. Tuscany is "d's" first choice of "non-guaranteed" housing. She is obviously applying for guaranteed housing (to be sure she has a place to live), but if she can get into Tuscany, there's a good chance she will want to live there. Seems like everyone wants to live in the same places. :)

from the people i'd heard, the Tuscany is something around the $950+ range. it's nice and new, no doubt, but otherwise normal...you're basically paying for the amenities downstairs...the Coldstones Creamery, Coffee Bean, Quiznos, Chipotle, etc.

The prices for rent will depend on the style of apartment as well as the number of roommates with whom the unit is shared.

I have a friend who lives in a one-bedroom, one-bath apartment by himself. He won't say how much rent is, but I believe it is well north of $1000 a month.

My son had a lot of trouble with the website also, in fact, he was only able to put his first choice in and it kicked him out and, when he contacted Housing, they said he couldn't go back in and put the rest of his choices in!

However, they did say that it didn't matter for the general lottery, only for Continuing Community and Special Interest. When your lottery number comes up, you will be able to see "real time" what is available right then and grab your room.

And yes, his 1st choice is Webb. Oh boy, this is going to be tough.

Yep, we're all going for Webb. Actually, Parkside Apartments are nice, as are Century/Cardinal (just across the street off-campus). Parkside is a special interest community and Century is for freshmen, but there are exceptions.
