I heard parkside suites are nice but parkside apartments are old and crappy. And you can't get century as an upperclassmen which kinda sucks...

"D" spent a night at Tuscany last Saturday. She has a girlfriend living there. She told her a one bedroom is $1,700/mo. Since there is a living room, I'm thinking she could have 3 people live there (2 in the bedroom and one in the living room.) Not sure about that though. Anyway, $1,700/mo divided by 3 is pretty doable. Utilities are less than $50 per person. I think the max the utilities have ever been were around $115/mo. She is really wanting to live there or Webb.

Instead of one in the Living room, why not all three in the Bedroom, (you could get one bunkbed) then put all the desks in the living room so you can leave the Bedroom as a quiet place and the Living room as a work & eat area.
I bought a 1 bedroom co-op for my son that I will re-sell when he graduates. I put up a false wall around the Living room with an entry door and made it into a 2 bedroom that way. That way my son and his roommate each have their own room. I made the former dining room into a small living room and eating area with small table.

that's a really good idea, and i think that's similar to what they are planning to do....if, of course, she gets a space there. There is already a day bed in the living room, so if someone needs a quiet area, or isn't getting along with one of the roommates (which i'm shocked to hear happens from time to time :))they can have some privacy. I think it will also be a little cheaper than trojan housing too

A one bedroom to buy? It seems like USC or Conquest is taking all the places to buy and adding to housing. Is it near the campus? Just curious, because we were thinking of doing the same thing.

Tuscany is located across the street from the main entrance to the campus (corner of Figueroa St. and 37th Pl.) They are for lease and not purchase.

Walking time to Tommy Trojan - 6 minutes
Biking time to Tommy Trojan - 2 minutes

This is similar to the co-op that I bought. I hope the link works. The real estate agent (Farah Farzan) is a USC graduate student in Real Estate and is wonderful. Her partner is president of the Co-op board and is also a USC Grad student. Several parents have bought their kids co-op apartments in the building and some older grad students financed their own co-op. It takes a load off the mind to have a permanant place. It is on Figueroa just south of the Coliseum. Its not as fancy and nice as Tuscany, but you pay for that and in the end, you can sell the coop and hopefully recoup something.

Thanks so much, ebay! I will check it out.

USCParent - Also, if you want to call me email me privately and I will give you my phone number. I just bought this last year when his housing fell through and I am really happy I did it. The real estate process in LA is VERY slow and I can give you an idea about timeframes. Another student from Canada had purchased a unit and when he arrived with all his furniture all the way from Canada, his unit was still in escrow. So I let him into my sons place with all his stuff until his place was transferred to him. It was a week before school started and my son and his roommate didn't arrive yet, so it wasn't too crowded and he was able to get his key in three days .

Weren't they supposed to get their lottery numbers on Friday? My S did not. Anyone else?

I think lottery numbers / times come out on Feb. 9.

I got my housing assignment on Friday (I applied Special Interest Community), and contracting starts tomorrow. When do I choose what room type I want in this process? I want a single, and those are relatively scarce....

Where did you find out about the Feb. 9th date? According to son, when he logs onto THR, it still says lottery numbers come out on February 2nd. I wonder if something is wrong with his login or something.

My assignment came out on Feb 2nd and contracting started today (5th), but I wasn't in General Lottery. For GL, the contracting begins on Feb 12th, so I imagine that it'll be the same and you get your assignment/time on Feb 9th (3 days before contracting)???

Well, my son got one of the last lottery selection times for sophomores. Ugh! He really had his heart set on staying on campus in a single, but that doesn't look likely. I'll start filling out the Conquest Housing and other applications for non-USC housing.

(Just had to post to say I find it interesting that your son is in college, and yet you're still filling out housing applications for him. How generous :P)

Well, Foil, I understand your meaning, but what you obviously do not know is that for Conquest the parents have to sign a guarantee and have it notarized. That is what I'm talking about in my post. But, hey, thanks for your snarky comment.

Nope, did not know that. Sorry for the somewhat-rude comment. I have lots to learn about USC ;)

No worries, Foil. It will all fall into place so naturally. I'm sure you will love it there! Where are you from? Have you been accepted?

I'm from Canada, and have just recently been accepted. I'm waiting for news on scholarships though, as paying the full tuition would be tough on my family.

Where did your son stay on campus? I'm interested to know what he though of where he stayed!
