Can anyone please clarify this? I thought USC housing asked freshmen to respond Jan. 20 to get the first chance priority for on campus housing (or whatever you are seeking housing wise) for next year. What is the procedure?

The online application period is Tuesday, 1/20/09 to Sunday, 1/25/09.

Here is a brochure about it:
http://housing.usc.edu/forms/1067_renewal_housing_book_web%20Updated.pdf

That's what I understood. My D and her friends, I believe, submitted something today. I think students received an email awhile back, which outlined the procedure.

Is there any advantage to applying early in the Jan 20-25 time period, like priority assignments for room choice timing? The brochure didn't say so, but is there info I'm missing?

Thank you so much for your help, brochure and info. We forwarded the brochure and date deadline to our son. USC sent a letter to our house a while back and I just could not find the letter with the instructions.

There is no difference in when you sign up during the time period. As long as you sign up by the 25th, you will be entered into the lottery equally.

Thanks Nikara!

I am confused about this. The brochure said room selection is in mid-February. Does this mean to enter the application now in order to get to the head of the line for room selection in February? Thanks again for your responses.

That most likely means that they want to take forms by January so that they will have adequate time to prepare for the drawing in February. Mind the administrative magnitude of processing and drawing thousands of applications.

I didn't read the brochure but perhaps that could also mean Housing selects the rooms in the residence where the student has been placed. Much like fall semester where students were informed of their room #s much later. Unless it's clearly stated the students do the "selecting", then I don't have a clue.

You enter in the housing lottery now, to show that you are interested in living in USC housing next year. If you want to live in a special interest community, you also indicate that now. Otherwise, you wait a few weeks until you get your housing lottery number. During those weeks, you can figure out who you want as a roommate. Once you get the number, you start planning which of your roommates has the best sign up time, and where you will want to be. Over all, you really need to be flexible, because housing options change continuously during the process.

The entire renewal brochure is available online- http://housing.usc.edu/forms/1067_renewal_housing_book_web%20Updated.pdf

I highly recommend reading it, because it has detailed instructions that may help.

Nikara, how are we going to survive without you???

Thank you so much.

I thought roommate requests were not guaranteed.

Roommate requests are different when returning. Actually, the entire process is different from when you first chose housing after enrollment. Read the brochure, and see if you can understand it all. If not, come back with specific questions. It's a bit too complicated to quickly explain!

DO Freshmans DO THIS? IM SOO CONFUSED PLEASE HELP

It's called UHR- USC HOUSING RENEWAL. It is for current students to renew housing.

It is not for incoming Freshman- don't worry!

Students who are accepted for Fall 2009 will receive information about housing at the time they are accepted.
