Thread for All International Students ;)

@lennin a very useful link with the dates and deadlines for registration either for SAT I or SAT II…

I hope that i helped you:)

[SAT Subject Tests - Dates & Deadlines](College Board Will No Longer Offer SAT Subject Tests or SAT with Essay – College Board Blog)

thanks! I wonder why there’s only 2 dates for world history…I mean, what’s the point?

I suppose its depends on the number of students who are register for this subject test…But I am not sure actually:/

Omg, serious? I’ll take World history…

yes, there’s only world histoty in june and december. I wanted to take world history, but december is too late for fall 2011 applications.
I still don’t understand why only 2 dates…It just doesn’t make sense…

^The December date shouldn’t be too late for Fall 2011 RD. So, no worries there. :)

really? but if most RD are due to jan 1st, just one month before that feels bad… And there wouldn’t be time to retake it in case i screw it up…

i took my SAT I in December and it still worked out fine for me. I guess, SAT II shouldn’t be a problem.

Certain colleges will accept SAT scores from tests taken in Jan. Most accept December scores.

Which one is considered more important: SAT or essay?

The SAT, no question. It’s the first hurdle. They have to be sure you’re academically right for the school before they consider your essay - a good essay cannot make up for a bad SAT. However, they will look less harshly on a bad SAT if you’re from a region like Europe, and more harshly if you’re from an Asian country.

Keep in mind, however, that there will be tons of students with good SAT scores. Your essay has to distinguish you from them. Basically, your SAT is what gets you in through the first door and your essay is what sets you apart once you’re in.

The SATs are important, but only up to a certain point. Don’t work yourself to death for a 2400 if you have a 2300. A 2250ish score is great.

I think that the most important are both of them.Either SAT exams or essay…

How bout the interview? Its optional, but does it have any significant affect?

it is important, but I personally dont know many internationals flying all the way to the states for an interview, sometimes they call though

maybe i can do it via skype… :)

What is the average SAT I score of an Indian or a Chinese applying to Ivy Leagues?

Getting a high SAT score isn’t everything. I got a 2270 - nothing like a 2400, but I had solid ec’s to back me up. Don’t just concentrate on SATs. Look at the bigger picture.

Interviews as for me are very important.I will give interviews though, not only for a good impression…I don’t see universities for their prestige but as a chance to study that I want:)

Good luck to all of you:)

@sikhman: where did you get in?

I’m officially going to Oxford. WOOOOHOOOO!!!
It’s not America, but it was my top choice. And now I’ll only be a 1 hour train ride from my sister and a 2 hour flight from my parents (as opposed to 12 hours). Super ecstatic!
