Thurgood Marshall

Ohh okay thanks! Im going to admit day too yay  See you all there! And abt the facebook thing yeah same here it would be great to get to know fellow freshmen before school starts, so far idk anyone whos going to ucsd :/

and yeah i live far too, 9 hours away haha. It will be worth it :)

hahaha i dont live OOS, but i do live 9 hours away like poto.
iā€™ve already been there for a campus tour, and since my parents dont fly, its just such a hassle to drive nine hoursā€¦ haha

FB is seriously great for networking.
CC as well, cause weā€™ve already met here too. :)

Canā€™t wait to see you guys there at Admit Day!
New2UCSD, I really wish you could come.
But weā€™ll meet eventually, and then weā€™ll play Pokemon!
Cause Iā€™ll get that DS if it kills me!
I need to find a N64 too, cause I have Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2, but no console. D:
I had the console, but my brother borrowed/gave it away to his exā€¦

New2UCSD, I donā€™t know if you have already but if you can, join the FB thread under the UCSD Class of 2014 group. Objection and I have met some pretty cool people there! =]

I live 6 hours away and that is barely drivable! I couldnā€™t imagine 9 hours! Weā€™ll all meet eventually! =]

Hey new Marshall folks!

Iā€™m a second year here, lived in the res halls last year (triple) and now in the upper apts (double).

From what Iā€™ve gathered, have fun on Admit Day! Marshall is the best area during it (I say) because we have the cultural celebration going on, its got a lot of food, little vendors, and shows going on.

OVT is good at first, but then all dining hall food becomes the same. Its better than the others though, for sure. Goodys food is eh, but Iā€™m not a big chipotle fan. I like their market downstairs much better.

GEā€™s are really niceā€¦I actually cleared the majority of mine before I got here, and ended up taking like 4 Lower Div ones, and one of my Upper Div ones (out of 2) also counted for my minor-score!

Anything else I or other current Marshall kids can answer? :)

A current Marshall kid appears!

O:!
Haha. I havenā€™t met a current Marshall kid before on the boards. I almost thought there werenā€™t upperclassmen. When I went on a tour, we had a Muir tour guide and a Warren guide, but no Marshall.

Cultural Celebration sounds fun. Iā€™m not a fan of Chipotle either, but what is the market? Other than that, I canā€™t think of any questions at the moment.

Haha here I am to the rescue!

The market is like Earlā€™s Place in Warren, youā€™ll hear alot about that one if you havenā€™t already. The prices are kind of high, but believe me it doesnā€™t matter much since you use meal points for it, and freshmen get a ton. Just donā€™t waste them early on! It has an oddly large amount of organic stuff, but otherwise mostly essentials, snacks and things to cook or prepare yourself. Its nice to be able to pick up a new toothbrush when you need it at midnightā€¦that kind of thing.

oooh thats good to knowā€¦
for our GEs, it says the disc. breadth has to have significant writing as one of the courses.
what are they talking about? what kinda classes are those?

The market sounds wonderful! And I actually love Chipotle haha. Or at least the one in Santa Barbara!

To current Marshall students, are you able to choose your suitemates?

@ New2UCSDā€“Thereā€™s a list of significant writing courses (ones where you write more than 10 pages, or something like that) and you have to take one of your upper div breadth (which means not in the same field as your major) from that list. They are mostly social science and humanities classes.

@ californiaxoā€“You can choose a few people you want to live with ā€¦I think maybe only one.

I heard you can attempt to request suitemates but itā€™s not always guaranteed

Is it better to send in your housing app and SIR early if you want a single?
and just out of curiosity, is anyone here a poli sci major?

pandoramic, iā€™m not a poli sci major but there are A TON on the class of 2014 facebook page!

Pandoramic: Iā€™m undeclared social science, and Iā€™m leaning to political science.
Almost so much that Iā€™m going to fall off whatever imaginary border Iā€™m standing on. XD

@pandoramic - send in your housing app NOW to have a better chance of getting a single in the colleges that donā€™t have a random selection for singles. The date of your SIR doesnā€™t matter as long as itā€™s before the deadline.

haha, well itā€™s definitely glad to see more poli sci majors being represented in marshall. I swear, it feels like Iā€™m the only one at my school taking a poli sci major because everyone else is doing something bio related.
thanks ucsandiego915, Iā€™ll get started on that asap :)

Hahaha. Same with me, Pando. Most of my friends are going into Bio.
I guess thatā€™s what you get when youā€™re surrounded by Asians.
I donā€™t know too many poli sci majors at my school either. :)

I was admitted to Marshall too - Bioengineering:Biotech

I got accepted to TMC as well, and visited today. Itā€™s nice, I like the suite setup (although I can see it getting a little crowded and annoying which is why I want a single) but the campus is indeed huge and I donā€™t like classes with 300 people. Iā€™m still deciding between UCSD, Scripps, and Smith though. Congrats to all of you.
