TI-84 Plus Silver won't turn on!!!

I tried new AAA batteries and also tried adjusting the lightness/darkness of the screen by holding down the 2nd key and then the up and down arrows...nothing! Do i need to hold them down and keep pressing them for a really long time or something?? What could it be! I need to use this calc for the ACT saturday and have programs in it!!! AHHHH. Please help!

oh man....that's not good.

I hate to frighten you...but maybe it's dead, broke, gone forever.

try not holding down the 2nd key. Push the 2nd key, then the down key, then the 2nd key, etc... If it's a brightness issue it should take like 10x for it to be dark enough. Hope it works!

nothings working..anyone lese got any ideas?

okay..so did everything the instruction booklet said to and nothing worked so i just had to reset the whole thing and lost the programs...ugh :(

anyone willing to type in the program for both the line equation (solves for slope and y intercept by asking for x1, y1, x2, and y2)

also, anyone know the cramer's rule one (dealing w/ matricies)

try more new batteries..?? I mean, batteries can expire..

if that doesn't work, beg a friend to let you borrow their calculator for the weekend. =/

From Yahoo Answers:

"First, turn it on. Once the calculator is on, press the "2ND" key (I believe it is a blue key in the ti-84 plus silver edition). Now press the plus key (+). A little above that key, you should see the word "mem." When you see the screen titled MEMORY, move the cursor all the way down to the option that says "Reset." From here, you can choose to reset either the RAM memory, or the factory settings. The factory settings are the "Defaults" option. I hope this helps."

Good luck!

Edit: Nevermind, didn't see that you can't turn it on. :P

coffeeaddict-for the line equation program there is a way that you can do that on the calculator without a program. Go to the 'stat' menu, hit 'edit' and in L1 type in your x-values and in L2 type in the y-values. Then go back to the 'stat' menu, hit calc, scroll down to "lin reg" (linear regression) and hit enter and it will give you the equation (you can do the same thing to get quadratic, cubic, logarithmic, etc. equations by doing the appropriate regression)

that didnt work lilyrobin... dunno why..usually it does..
does anyone at least have the line equation program i described above?

Do you really need a program for that? I takes 30 seconds to do it by hand. Here you go if you really need it:

Input "X1: ",X
Input "X2: ",Y
Input "Y1: ",Z
Input "Y2: ", A
(Z-X)/(A-Y) sto M
Z-MX sto B
Disp "M= ",M
Disp "B= ",B

wouldn't it be
(Z-A)/(X-Y) sto M

instead of
(Z-X)/(A-Y) sto M???

also, do you know how to make those #s appear as fractions....i mean automatically through the program..i forgot

Yeah, you're right. I accidently switched the letters.

To display as fractions do this:
Disp "M= ",M->Frac (#1 on the Math menu)
Disp "B= ",B->Frac (#1 on the Math menu)

anyone know how to make the slope and y intercept answers automatically show up as fractions instead of having to type them in again and got to math and then frac..how do you type in into the program?

thanks!!!!!

thanks!!!!!!!!

thank you so much you guys!

Same problem here:

 • TI 84 Plus is dead (yesterday alive and kicking),
 • (and exam statistics tomorrow).

I removed the 6 torx-screws, and removed the backside (battery-compartment) from the frontside (screen and motherboard).
Once the screws are unscrewed, I used my nails to unclip the two parts.

What was wrong:
Immediately visible was a tiny but fatal corrosion on the two little metal-covered spots on the motherboard, where the metal extensions from the battery-compartment (the backside of TI84) touch the motherboard (frontside). So the power was no longer connected to the + and - entry spots of the motherboard.

Solution:
I tried to clean the corroded parts, but the thin metal was corroded away, so I bent the two flexible extensions from the battery-compartment a little bit sideways, so they could touch a fresh, non-corroded part of the* + and - entry spots on the motherboard.

SOLVED!!
My Texas Instruments TI84 Plus works again for 100%

IMHO this corrosion (Cr metal extension of the battery-compartment, and Cu on the motherboard) can be avoided by using golden contacts like in the rest of the hardware industry. This corrosion problem is a ticking time-bomb, good for sales but not good for our trust in this product …

According to Murphy´s Law these problems allways occur when you have an important exam the next day …

Hope it helps.
