Tilghman backs affirmative action

hahahhaahhahah. did u know that for ivies you only have to be 1/32nd black to be considered a minority? thats the craziest thing i have ever heard. thats what the harvard representative told us lol

haha now i wish i was native american, and lived in some obscure state, like alaska.

i thought it was 1/16th

oh native american is the best. i want to be native american. dammit! haha.

^ It's things like that about AA that bother me. When you're only 1/32 African American, truly how much "diversity" and "culture" are you bringing to the table?

haha i live in alaska..... but im asian! CURSE THESE OVERREPRESENTED GENES!

how do u even know if you're 1/16 or 1/32 black anyway? you'd have to like draw out your family tree wayyyyyy back for centuries.

I think it's based on the culture you were raised with. You can be very much black technically but not be different or diverse. Does that count?

hey even if you're asian but u live in alaska.. u should be HAPPY. you're already halfway there. i'm asian, and in CALIFORNIA. Practically the worst place to be.

Heck, I like rap. I've gone out with black chicks (lie), HECK, Im even a member of the NAACP and the BLack Panther Party. I READ BOONDOCKS! IM BLACK! I SWEAR!

yea i know.

well i dont know but most of my african-american friends...all 2 of them...have a lotta culture like passed down. im sure they have like lotsa tradition passed down even if i dunno im bsing outta my ass lol

haha icymoon. u live where 98% of the asians in the US live

hahaha, so if someone was white but was adopted and grew up in a black family, and therefore "immersed" in black culture, does that count?

umm i don't think they want people from the black panther party...

I'm asian in New York, icymoon. I think it's worse.

Oh and you don't have to draw a tree for that many generations for 1/32... only like five.

Haha icymoon, i used to live in redondo beach, cali. like 7 years ago... i guess i just got "lucky?"

1/32nd is actually only 4 generations back

icymoon - i use to live in hacienda heights know where that is? lol

lol

It's what's inside that matters!! If we're black on the inside, we bring diversity, right?!

Do you like Alaska, Hobbes? How did the move feel, going from Cali to Alaska?

i agree--i took this perspective when filling out my application.
although i was born in TX and, technically, am mexican american, i filled in hispanic (mexico) on my application. that is truly my culture--both parents are from mexico and im just as mexican as anyone else.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBA! AIE AIE AIE!

haha cute boy

hey i know where hacienda heights is!!! it's like <30 mins from where i live... in fact, my piano teacher lives there so I used to go there all the time. that place is like 80% asian.

Cold.
I moved in at the peak of winter. My dad was up here by himself for half a year, then my family came up. It was cold. Like FRIGGIN COLD. I remember my elementary principal said first day, "Well kids, remember to bring sweaters today. It's gonna be around 10 degrees (without chill factor, which is a byatch), so remember to bundle up." But now, i enjoy it and revel in its frigidity.
