Time flies in the test room

So after doing countless tests all summer long and just recently, I've never had to rush to finish a section, ever. I always had much more time to spare. But today, there were one or two sections that I completed right on time, no time for double checking. Where did the extra 8 minute cushion I pushed so hard for go?

I used the same strategies and at no point felt like I was doing work slower than my average pace.

What happened?

When you’re taking the actual test you’re often slower because you tend to double check every question, whereas when you practice you just go on. Also, I have noticed that some proctors cut a minute or two off of the given time. It sucks, but you have to accept it. I was supposed to have a 32 on the ACT but fell to 27 when the proctor took 3 minutes off an already shortly timed Reading section and got a 21 in that. Life sucks.
