Time limits?

Until this point in my life, I cannot remember a single time I ever had trouble with time limits.

Then... BOOM, in the same semester my Physics prof and Calc profs both give quizzes (and from what I hear, exams) with incredibly short time limits.

In physics we had a 10 minutes to solve 3 problems, all of which involved quite a bit of calculation, drawing pictures, etc. I understand the problems COMPLETELY. I've practiced the same kinds of problems extensively. They are literally no problem for me... I just can't write that fast! Now I'm starting to get severe test anxiety which I've never had before. That anxiety translates into stupid mistakes (thinking 3^2 is 27, forgetting a negative sign, copying a problem down wrong, etc).

Have you had a class like this? How did you overcome it? I know the obvious answer would be to practice doing problems on my own - but I'm doing that. I am doing every problem at the end of the chapters/sections (70-100ish problems, some being pretty tough challenge questions).

Have you tried practicing with the severe time limit?

I sort of do. I don’t time myself, but I try to go as fast as I can. I don’t know if that would recreate the same scenario, since I would know it’s an arbitrary time limit and is non-consequential. I wouldn’t get the anxiety and wouldn’t have as much of an issue with mistakes. I will try this tomorrow though.
