Unfortunately it looks like you might be late getting to those classes. The UTC and CMA are on opposite sides of campus and the CMA to JES is even further. Some people might have no problem arriving just as class is beginning or a few minutes afterward, but then you would risk finding a seat when everyone is already seated and possibly missing a few minutes of lecture or announcements. Taking the forty acres bus probably wouldn’t help either.

Check out the maps section on the UT website. You’ll see a campus wide map with the opportunity to click on a building name for pictures of that building so you can recognize it on class day. I recommend you go to the main building (first floor of the clock tower) to get a campus map for you to highlight your route and carry around with you until you’re comfortable finding your own way to class. There’s no shame in doing it because you’ll see lots of people carrying them. I also suggest you spend a couple of hours finding your classes in the days preceding class day, because even though finding buildings isn’t that hard, some classes are hard to locate and doing this in advance can help you save a few minutes.

Also if you have back-to-back classes and you’re having trouble finding a seat the first week or so of class, don’t worry, eventually some people will stop coming to class.

This is a different question, but I was looking at CMS 306M on myedu, and it showed the grades between past semesters. The average gpa tanked in fall 09, does anyone know why? Did the class get harder?

The teachers change rapidly for that class, it’s taught by instructors that tend to be pretty young and only there for a few years. My teacher had taught the class like two times before and I think she left after last year. It’s not a real “we need a professor” class, it’s a subjective grading “just need an instructor” class. Your grade depends wildly on your teacher. Some only like to give out a set number of A’s in a speech class, others think almost everybody does well enough and don’t hand out anything lower than a B. It all depends, and you don’t usually get to pick your teacher since they are not listed on the course schedule.

The UTC and MEZ are right across from each other. You should have plenty of time. Anyone know about back to back classes from CMA to CAL. Looking at the map, and it does not look doable in ten minutes…

CMA to CAL you won’t be able to do. For a good distance reference. KINS to WEL is the farthest I would ever go in 15 minutes. Farthest I would go in 10 would be UTC to WEL.

Y2K, it’s funny you mention UTC to WEL, because my son has that exact trip to make with back-to-back classes.

On Thursdays, he has to go from Jester to BME - CPE - SZB - CPE, and back to Jester again. He has an hour between each class, fortunately! I told him the bike his dad just got for him will come in handy.

I have a back-to-back from UTC to CPE… is that basically impossible? I was thinking about just walking really fast down speedway. And the T, TH classes have 15 minutes in between, so could I walk it in 15 minutes?

@MaineLonghorn, actually an hour between classes is horrible. It gets really boring when you have that much dead time with nothing to do. Your days just drag on forever.

angeblah-- 15 minutes should be enough to get from UTC to CPE if you’re walking. It’s an easy and fast bike ride as well, no more than 9 minutes to unlock your bike from a rack in front of PCL, ride to CPE, and lock your bike up again, possibly another 2 minutes to get to class if you’re taking the elevator.

amyw2737-- if you only have 10 minutes, probably not. With 15 minutes, maybe. at least you’ll be going downhill to get there.
