Time Warner HSI sucks, recommendations?

Paying $30/month for Time Warner's standard high speed internet which is slow as hell (the guys seem to be always doing maintenance across the street--yet the service goes slower each time) plus they probably oversell their bandwidth. Speed is rated up to 10 Mbps but fluctuates between 1 Mbps and 10 Mbps down (sometimes > 10 Mbps if I'm lucky). What are you all you folks in the apartments (west of campus) using and how it is? If it's not Time Warner, would you recommend it?

Damn, I want your time warner. You have standard at 30 bucks and its rated at 10 mbs? They haven’t even rolled out 10 mbs at my house and I pay 47! Granted, I get my max speed 24/7 so I guess that’s better.

You are pretty limited in what you can get. It’s either time warner or whatever your phone company is (I assume its Verizon).

I did a sublet in that area a few a summers ago and I had really fast internet. The guy told me had verizon and complained alot about the speed, so a tech came out and did something to the line to make it fast.

get FIOS if it’s offered. Otherwise, at my apartment we pay for the top tier TWC since we have 5 people living here - 30/2 connection on what is supposed to be a 15/1 line. However, the internet gets really bogged down at peak and is extremely annoying - 6 down instead of our 30 on some spiking nights!

cable internet is shared within a community, so it’s natural for it to get slow during peak hours. dsl and fiber optic are dedicated connections, so their speeds are nearly constant at all times.
