I'm going to get my studio in August and plan to sign up for the High Speed Internet. I'm considering between Time Warner High Speed Cable ( $25 for Basic Internet Service without Digital TV) and Yahoo DSL ( $30 Phone + $15 DSL). Do you guys have any previous experience with these providers? Thanks

It's no longer Yahoo DSL, I believe, but the internet is decent. $15 is a good price for 768kbs connection. I've had no problems with it except when they do maintenance once every half year or so.

yeah I think it changed to AT&T DSL. But the problem is I have to sign up for the phone line($30) which I don't need at all.

If you're a speed freak then cable is good. I was always worried about the speed problems of cable because of bandwidth sharing, but I was proved wrong once I tried it. You need to make sure that your place is wired for cable though.

Are you sure its $30 for the phone line or is that for flat rate service with unlimited calls?

i have time warner with my cable package and its fine. never had issues with it.

i prefer cable to dsl though.

Zer0c123,

$30 is a flat rate for a phone line with unlimited local calls or so. They have some real cheap packages but only for low income. On the other hand, I must sign up for AT&T phone line in order to obtain their DSL service.

they should have a $5-6 measured rate plan with no extras. that should be fine if the line is just for DSL. just use your cell phone when you need to use the phone.

I don't think it's 30 bucks for a flat rate. My bro signed up for AT&T to get DSL and I think he pays like 5 something not even close to 10 bucks. He just uses his cell and never gives out his home number.

They had to fire the Time Warner dude for the huge loss of customers over the crap TW cable internet fiasco. My mom spends at least an hour a week yelling at them after being put on hold for 1/2 an hour doing the "if you want internet, please press or say '1'." They have serious attitude and if they say they'll credit you for whatever, it never shows up on the next bill like they say. The worst incident was March 15th when I was trying to get online to find out if I got into a couple of UCs, and the whole cable internet went down. Fortunately, our next door neighbors' wireless is not secure and we get a very strong signal at our house!

Yea the measured rate is all you need for dsl. The only time you need the unlimited flat rate for internet is dial-up.

Time Warner High Speed Cable has been pretty reliable for me, with down-periods only lasting about 30 mins. for a few times over the past year. The speed itself has been pretty bad during the evenings though.
