Timing of Scholarship Notifications

Daughter received full tuition scholarship and invitation to compete for chancellor’s scholarship in the mail yesterday. Dated 11/16.

@RandRDad Nice! Would you be willing to share what kind of stats she had?

@cheeki2breeki

SAT - 800 on both math and reading
PSAT - 230
GPA 4.0 unweighted
Class rank 1 of approximately 220 in a good high school
Bunch of APs, all 5s
Good ECs

Congratulations, @momofsmartdancer and @RandRDad !! Great accomplishments for your children!

Congratulations! They are all in good company, being NMSF.

Damn, clearly you did something right with her

My DS16 got a letter today for full tuition but no mention of Chancellor (?). Is it always the same packet?

Here applied I think the last week of October, heard he got in about two weeks later, then Honors College.

Stats: GPA about 4.6 weighted (all A, one A-), eight APs so far with one four and the test fives. 2390 (790W), 800,800,790 on SAT2 in Math2, physics, Latin respectively, 35 ACT. Answered all questions including the true statement that he learned about Pitt and loved it after an unimpressive visit to CMU which I thought was risky to reveal.

We’re in Massachusetts if relevant. He did send LORs though the application said they were optional.

Congrats to all who got full tuition!

Don’t know if this applies to anyone else but I’ll post this just in case anyone else is worried too. I applied August 26, and I think my application was complete 1-2 weeks after. I did put in my application that I would do another ACT (the October one), from which I got significantly better CR+M scores. I haven’t gotten any letter, so right now I’m just nervously waiting for a miracle.

I applied late October and got accepted this week… Do you think it’s too late that they’ll even consider me for full or half tuition? I also submitted my essays last week.
Stats: 34 E+M/33 Composite ACT
3.92UW
non-ranking school
OOS (Missouri, I heard being from an underrepresented area gets you more scholarships??)
sent my resume to oafa@pitt.edu which includes leadership in two clubs, founder of one club, varsity sport and captain, published science manuscript, national merit commended, and more
Oh, also for qualified for EA Pharm
@fretfulmother I guess your son was in the same boat as me! Since I applied late October, too. But it seems like I’m getting my notifications later (could be because I live in Missouri). When your son sent the LORs, did he just email them to oafa@pitt.edu? Also, did he receive the full tuition scholarship notice after he got accepted? If so, how long did it take for him to get that information? Anyways, congrats to your son! Hopefully I will be his classmate for Pitt Class of 2020!

@jumpingstar - thank you! (also sorry for all those typos I was on my phone  ) -

I believe DS had his teachers upload the LORs through Naviance to send them. His full tuition notice came today, so yes, nearly a month after applying, and also well after the Honors and admissions notifications. Also - he submitted his essays a week after the formal application (he says that was the last step in late October). Therefore, you may just be a few weeks behind anyway. Did you hear about Honors college yet? That was between admission and tuition for us. And Congrats to you as well!!!

DS is here and adds: “tell them the paper letter contained Honors college info but not the email”.

Daughter applied on September 11 and was accepted on September 28th.
Tuition scholarship and invitation to compete for Chancellor’s was dated 11/16.

@RandRDad - was the invitation for Chancellor’s a separate sheet in the envelope? Was it part of the same letter? I’m trying to figure out if there’s no chance for DS or if I might have recycled it.

@fretfulmother - the tuition scholarship and invitation to compete for the Chancellor’s scholarship were both part of the same one page letter.

@fretfulmother , Last year my son was accepted in September and didn’t receive his scholarship offer and Chancellor’s invite until November.

@RandRDad @curiousinpa - thank you!!

I don’t know if things are different this year.

In the past I think all students who received full tuition scholarships also received the Chancellor’s invite. Some students who received other scholarships in lower amounts also got invitations to apply for Chancellor’s.

so if I got full tuition but not the invitation to the Chancellor’s, is it over for a chance for Chancellor now? Or could my invitation letter still come in later?

In the past, the two was in the same letter. It seems that there are a plenty of highly competitive applicants and that the competition for the prestigious Pitt Chancellor scholarship is very high. By the way, got the full tuition scholarship is already a big achievement… The answer for your question is possible…

Full tuition is indeed a big achievement.

I pasted this FAQ from the link below on the Pitt website. It makes it pretty clear that the odds of receiving the Chancellor’s scholarship are pretty slim even if invited to apply. Looks like 10 people received the award in 2015 out of between 450 and 600 that were invited to apply.

How many students are invited to apply for Chancellor’s Scholarships?

Approximately 450-650 invitations to apply for the Chancellor’s Scholarship are mailed to students. Of these, we estimate that 350-400 applications will be submitted and 50-60 nominees will be invited to interview.

What is the deadline to apply for Chancellor’s? My D applied early and was accepted in September but she has yet to receive any word about scholarships (#2 in class, 33 ACT/34 superscore, 4.2). I am trying to figure out when to give up hoping
Thanks!
