Timing of Scholarship Notifications

What is the timing of scholarship notification? I know that Pitt has a separate scholarship committee but when do they begin to meet and/or notify applicants? When are the invitations for the Chancellor’s scholarship sent out? Thank you.

I believe the scholarship committee begins meeting this week and will continue to meet until March. I think notifications go out throughout the process.

Last year the first people heard about scholarships just before Thanksgiving I think. My D found out the beginning of December. I believe the notification letter contained a link for her to apply to the Chancellor’s scholarship.

Last year my son received an initial scholarship offer as well as an offer to apply for the Chancellor’s on November 17th.He also received an invitation to apply for the Stamps Scholarship on September 25th.

Last year I received full tuition and was invited to apply for the Chancellor’s mid December, and received a separate engineering scholarship in March.

D just received a full tuition scholarship offer today, hoping for the Chancellor’s invitation to apply.

@Skates76 Congrats! that is a great offer from a great school. Did she get an email or she discovered when you logged into her myPitt account.

Would you mind sharing her stats?

I received a full tuition scholarship offer and an invitation to apply to for the Chancellor’s scholarship yesterday through the mail

Congratulations, to you, @nutellapikachu and to your daughter, @Skates76!!

Congratulations! @nutellapikachu and @Skates76

@nutellapikachu and @Skates76 , would either of you mind posting stats to see what Pitt is looking for in Merit Scholarships?

@pajw424 Cutting and pasting D’s stats and stuff from another thread as per your request:

SAT-total - 2250 - breakdown - M-780, CR-740, WR-730, one sitting
PSAT - 227, in PA, likely NMF
ACT-composite - 35 - breakdown- M-33, E-36, S-35, R-36, did not take writing, one sitting
GPA-UW- 4.0 on 4.0 scale, W- 107.2
Class rank - 1st of 293, public school, well regarded, usually send a handful of kids to Ivies and top tier each year.
Residence - Pennsylvania
Hooks - Not really
EC - Were good to average, but have been improving greatly as she started up a Girls in STEM club at School and along with another student developed a project to build mini-libraries in places like women’s shelters, free health clinics, YWCA, etc.
Essays should be good to very good.
AP courses taken (7) - Gov, APUSH, Chem, Bio, World history, Calc A/B, English comp - All 5’s
AP courses this coming year - Psych, Physics (not sure which one), English Lit, Stats

I would assume that they applied pretty early and they both have phenomenal stats

While some students learn of a scholarship award shortly after being admitted, most students do not find out until much later. Due to the competitiveness of the scholarship consideration process, many students will go through more than one review before a scholarship decision is made. Bottom line, students selected to receive a scholarship will find out no later than March 1st. Thank you for your patience!

Best of luck,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

i did apply really early, which is why i think i got my scholarship notification so early

SAT-2400 one sitting GPA: 3.9 UW/ 4.4 W OOS

you can dm if you want more information, i’d be happy to help!

@nutellapikachu Congrats! those are excellent credentials. Did the Chancellor invitation come with the full tuition offer or was it a separate letter?

@dudefromnowhere it was in the same letter

My d got her scholarship letter from Pitt today!!!
Full tuition!!!
So excited for her…
Letter is dated 11/16. She applied in September and submitted the essay questions approx 10/16- so not as early as the other posters so far.
She later learned of the Medical GAP program and sent email requesting consideration. She received the application for that program one week later. We are also hoping for an invite for the Chancellor’s Scholarship.

Stats:
Major: pre-med
OOS
GPA- 3.99/4.0; weighted 5.2
Rank: 5/700
Only took SAT once due to Saturday rehearsals for dance:
SAT 2220
SAT critical reading + math score: 1580/1600
NMSF/ Likely National Merit Finalist
10 APs & 2 Dual Credit classes, all 5s & one 3 (had the flu)
Maintained straight As while dancing 25-38 hrs/ week year round on varsity high school dance team, in the high school performing arts company, Nutcracker ballets, and Competitive dance team.
Also served as Teaching Assistant for dance classes.
Principal dancer, awarded multiple scholarships through competitive audition process at conventions
Member of Nationally award-winning competitive dance team- ranked approx. 10th in the nation.
High School State Solo Dance champion

Teaching assistant for AP Environmental Science for 2 yrs
Volunteer guide at IU Hospital

Pitt is in her top 3 choices- so, again, this is very exciting for us. We will likely visit again in the spring before making a decision.

Congratulations!

I think in order to automatically be considered for the med GAP you had to put premed or bioengineering as major on the application. It’s great that she was able to get an invitation to apply for it.
