I'm kind of nervous about taking the SSAT. I hope my test anxiety doesn't kick in.

When are you taking it?

Sleep well the night before, is the only advice I would give.

Don’t over-study, and do practice tests! :D

I’m taking it April 21st

I would review your basics. Define basics, you say. By basics I mean the core math, reading comprehension and vocab you’ll need for the test. The math section starts out super super easy but as you move on the questions get fiendishly difficult, a solid knowledge of arithmetic, geometry and some algebra should get you through the math section. Verbal requires some use of vocabulary, I would buy a SSAT prep book that has a vocab list and just go through most of them leading up to a few weeks before the test. Practice analogies religiously.

I would suggest just practice, practice, practice! Take as many practice tests as possible, but don’t do any when the test is only a few days away. Take that time to rest and think about test day and what your game plan is.

I took a practice test each week starting around a month and a half before the test, and by the end of the 5th practice test I noticed that my score kept getting considerably better. I constantly reviewed math and vocab, I didn’t drown myself in it but I always skimmed the list so I knew most of the definitions and didn’t forget them. I didn’t really do a lot of reading comp but I was naturally good at that. Finally I took the SSAT in October and when my score of 98% came I was ecstatic. :)

Don’t study 5 hours a day like the try-hards. If you just focus for as little as 15 to 30 minutes each day prepping for the SSAT, you’ll do fine. That’s what I did.

Even if you don’t do anything, at least familiarize yourself with the test structure and the question type so you won’t waste time on directions or become disoriented on test day. That’s step one. Then do practice tests, and figure out the ones you’re weak on. That’s step two… and three… and four… and… you get the idea. Practice!

Thanks Guys

Eat a good breakfast and bring a snack.
