I was wondering if there is a difference between community college transfers and university student transfers since it seems the reason for transfers may be different. For example, most community college students plan to continue their education after they complete their two years, however university students may have different explanations for why they are transferring from another four year school.

For community college transfer students, are there any specific points that we should talk about in our transfer essays?

I would love to hear some advice or input from community college transfer students.

It depends. Do you transfer after 1 year at CC or upon getting your Associate Degree? If you transfer upon completion of CC, I think you only need to focus on why your target school is right for you, no point in mentioning anything about your CC.

However if you transfer after 1 year in CC then you should focus on how your CC is not academically challenging (literally: not good enough) for you. While if you transfer from an 4-year Univ u typically should focus on why that univ is not suitable to your academic needs. Of course we all know that 4-year univ comes in tiers and some are far better than others but I read somewhere that you should never badmouth ur 4-year.

Also be careful when proving your points. You should focus on how ur CC is “providing a great deal of knowledge but too profession-oriented” or something like that (my 2cents, u probably can come up with something better) and don’t degrade ur CC or the admission officer might, in turn, degrade ur CC GPA :)

I ain’t no expert and those are advices I collected and made sense to me, just wanna share with you. Might works, might not, who knows? :)
