Hi, I'm a new member here and currently a senior in high school.
I just received my scores from the October 2012 SAT test, and to be honest they were way below what I wanted to achieve...
So I'm planning to seriously, SERIOUSLY prepare for the December test, which will of course be my final one.
My current scores are:

CR: 550
Writing: 630 (essay: 7)
Math: 590
Total: 1770

I desperately want to get into the 2000s, but I'm pretty worried if I can raise more than 300 points in such a short time.
My biggest problems are:
1. TIME MANAGEMENT. I've always sucked at it, and I always tend to leave several questions unfinished...(this probably brought down my scores) any tips on how to practice speeding up?
2. ESSAY. I can never seem to get a score over a 7...I studied a few SAT prep textbooks and tried to get the overall structure right and everything, but any ideas on what makes a good SAT essay? like the general format, I guess?
3. MATH: ...I just need practice...right?

Thank you so much for reading this, and I'd truly appreciate it if someone can help me on this! :)

Practice. That’s basically all there is to improving SAT scores, in my opinion. Get a couple of prep books and of course the Blue Book (official SAT practice test book)-- work through problems and get used to recognizing shortcuts in solving each problem or question. If you’re really serious you should try to do at least eight practice tests before the real thing.

Another thing that is kind of simple but REALLY helped me personally in time management: circle the answers on your test booklet and fill in the bubbles after one or two pages, not after each question. It may seem kind of trivial but it seriously helped me cut down on amount of time needed to complete each section.

For help on specific sections like essay writing and math, there’s been plenty of past threads on this forum about… (just search “sat math section” or something like that and you’ll find a lot of advice). This is a great thread for essays: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/645763-how-write-12-essay-just-10-days.html

But as I said earlier, I think the most important thing to do if you want to improve your score is to just go through a couple prep books and do LOTS of practice tests.
