Tips for staying awake in 61A

I was wondering if anyone had tips for staying awake in CS61A. The material is interesting, and I usually get really in depth into programming courses and go beyond material taught in class, but I have not been able to stay awake during lecture.

I mean I think there have been 3-4 lectures where I have been able to not sleep from 2:15 to 2:45. This was fine in the first 2 and a half months since I already knew the material, but it is fairly annoying not knowing about material because I slept through it being introduced.

I've tried going to Qualcomm and getting coffee, or cappuccinos, or Lattes with extra shots of espresso, but I still end up going to sleep after I finish drinking it. Energy Drinks work for most other situations where I have to stay awake, but even if I drink one right beforehand I fall asleep.

I don't have this problem with my classes at 9:30 (with Coffee beforehand) or my 6:30PM Discussions. My other 2PM class I sometimes fall asleep in, but not nearly as consistently as I do in Pimintel.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to staying awake in an afternoon class?

tape your eyelids open

Two words. One banned drink. Four Lokos.

It’s pretty much a lost cause. I got probably the best sleep of my life in that class.

^^ lol.

sit in the front row dead center. i imagine you would find a way to not fall asleep right in front of the prof/head gsi

just watch the webcasts later, if you fall asleep, you fall asleep. You’re better off than most of the class who doesn’t even bother to show up.

Enjoy your sleep :)

Get at least 6 hours of sleep at night and you can’t fall asleep in any classes.

snort cocaine.

Incease your caffeine dose if you can’t stay awake.

Energy drink doens’t work? Have another! Sometimes, the 50mg in an expresso doesn’t cut it. So, have a Red Bull at 80mg. That doesn’t work? Get a Monster at 160mg. Still not enough? Have a Nos (260mg) or take another Monster. Keep doingf until you are about to get a heart attack.

Personally, I find that 700mg within the same hour will ensure that I’m awake for the next three hours, no questions asked unless I take a sleeping pill or something. At the same time, I only have caffeine once every three days or so and usually get it in 160mg doses.

Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, the bast thing to do is clear the space on your workstation, place your arm over it,and SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.I regret not enjoying heavenly naps in highschool, when I get to college…
