Hey, I just got waitlisted to UVA. At first, I couldn't imagine me attending this university because from my research I heard of the problems of racism and my love for USC. (If I don't get off the waitlist, I'll still try for USC). My point is do you have any tips to get off the waitlist for UVA. Well thanks and if you do please private message me too. If you also need any tutoring in Japanese private message me too? thank you

But I will give some tips for those who are interested.

First of all, write a waitlist follow-up letter. Explain that you are still interested and will attend if you are offered a spot. Update your application: Did you get any awards? Scholarships? Activities? Also explain how the campus can benefit from your presence. How will you contribute to the school?

Second, keep getting good grades. UVA may ask for the final transcript at the end of your school year.

Third, wait. This is the toughest part of the waitlist. Because the waitlist doesn't close until the end of June, don't despair when you don't hear from UVA until you get a notice.

Also, keep this in your mind: You must be a great student to be waitlisted at UVA. If you don't get off the waitlist, it's the university's loss, not yours. I don't have any doubt you will succeed in college.

When you heard about the wait list, were you able to check it online? When I called UVA the other day, they said I should be able to check it online, but now all it says online is that all furthur notifications will be made by mail. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, because yesterday it didn't say that.

I didn't even think to check it online. I wasn't really big on UVA. I was really big on USC hence my name NerdyUSCgurl. Then I started thinking more about UVA, and I realized that they have an awesome Japanese program there. What turned me off about UVA from what I've read were it's racial problems.

Yeah, UVA is considered one of the best schools for African American and African students. I think we were listed with the highest black graduation rate for the 12th year in the row or something according to JBHE and like one of the top 10 or something schools to attend

I think the media made more of the issue than anything I saw. The university's admin took the issue seriously. They issued statements and got the FBI to investigate. Within a day or two, President Casteen made a strong speech. Students, and faculty, came together and showed their lack of tolerance for racism. To show their support, one day last year everyone I knew wore a black shirt. Ribbons and signs were all over the lawn all semester. People here are great and they truly value diversity. Like anywhere, you'll always have a few bad apples.

I just turned the status function off so we can work on the application for next year's students. I'll make sure the front desk knows about this.

Spicoli, I get what you're saying. I guess the stuff they said about racism was probably overexaggereated. Nonetheless, I'm still waitlisted at UVA and trying to get accepted there :/.

I got off the waitlist on May 16th, through the mail, but I didn't do anything after I found out I was waitlisted. I just waited. I had assumed that the waitlist was a reject, and concentrated my efforts on enrolling at VT. However, if you've seen my other thread, I decided to attend UVA in the end, and I'm more excited about it than I thought I was going to be. :)

Don't get discouraged, and true, if you're really serious about getting off the waitlist, you should tell them so, and keep them posted on the things you have accomplished since you applied.
